Got to say I'm pretty grateful we don't have any shark issues in the UK. There's something freaky enough about staring into the murky abysse when your at the bottom without having to worry about getting eaten... Although did I read on hear a while back that someone got 'rammed' by a mullet lol ???

Hahaa it could have been you lol, was one that had been mangled by a net or something and then started attacking you on your accent up to the surface? I can't quite remember the full story but it was something like that hahaa. I tell ya, these British fish be mean as! rofl

The one i had a run in with was clearly diseased and heading in the opposite direction to me on the surface. I observed his poor health and finned on but a second later he was repeatedly ramming into my mask and head. After the initial 'WTF????' i was pretty cracked up and finned upon my way.

"Cymothoa exigua is a parasiticcrustacean of the family Cymothoidae. It tends to be 3 to 4 cm long. This parasite attaches itself at the base of the spotted rose snapper's ( Lutjanus guttatus) tongue, entering the fish's mouth through its gills. It then proceeds to extract blood through the claws on its front three pairs of legs. As the parasite grows, less and less blood reaches the tongue, and eventually the organ atrophies from lack of blood. The parasite then replaces the fish's tongue by attaching its own body to the muscles of the tongue stub. The fish is able to use the parasite just like a normal tongue. It appears that the parasite does not cause any other damage to the host fish. [1] Once C. exigua replaces the tongue, some feed on the host's blood and many others feed on fish mucus. They do not eat scraps of the fish's food. [2] This is the only known case of a parasite functionally replacing a host organ.
There are many species of Cymothoa, [3] but only C. exigua is known to consume and replace its host's tongue."
Although wierder still, the fish in the pick above seems to have human teeth???

Popped in a cove on the south coast today. The sea was pretty choppy but the vis was still 3 to 4m so well fishable. Left with a nice bass, which could have easily been 3 if I was facing a different direction. Passed on a couple of good sized mullet. Also lost my bloody knife grrr

Funnily enough I had my first experience with Tope in the water a few weeks back.. was lining up a shot on a bass which was hanging on the edge of range... suddenly had this strange feeling as if a plane was flying too low overhead.. glanced up to see a sharks silhouette.. it gave me the fright of my life as it was about 2 foot from my face.. bass must have chipped on as I watched in awe at my first UK Tope sighting... amazing fish.. went on to see a couple of Smoothhounds and Dogfish too that day which was a first too.. no bass taken that day.. probably why they were so skittish!! I wished I had the GoPro rigged up for that little event but hopefully will do from now on... been working on a new mount for my Geronimo Pro that clips into the reel mount.. just finished it today now waiting for the flat lens.. again! (3rd Gopro HD now.. seem to have a habit of losing them! (1 to the surf.. now 1 to the Kelp!!:head) Thought I'd post a pic up here anyways for those who might be interested.
Aluminium T-bar routed out with the trusty Dremel, to load the bands you simply unclip the camera (hence the safety cord!!)
