Funnily enough I had my first experience with Tope in the water a few weeks back.. was lining up a shot on a bass which was hanging on the edge of range... suddenly had this strange feeling as if a plane was flying too low overhead.. glanced up to see a sharks silhouette.. it gave me the fright of my life as it was about 2 foot from my face.. bass must have chipped on as I watched in awe at my first UK Tope sighting... amazing fish.. went on to see a couple of Smoothhounds and Dogfish too that day which was a first too.. no bass taken that day.. probably why they were so skittish!! I wished I had the GoPro rigged up for that little event but hopefully will do from now on... been working on a new mount for my Geronimo Pro that clips into the reel mount.. just finished it today now waiting for the flat lens.. again! (3rd Gopro HD now.. seem to have a habit of losing them! (1 to the surf.. now 1 to the Kelp!!:head) Thought I'd post a pic up here anyways for those who might be interested.
Aluminium T-bar routed out with the trusty Dremel, to load the bands you simply unclip the camera (hence the safety cord!!)

not sure if ilinked this right but one of the newquay guys on wsf has had a load of fishing kit robbed from he's shed ,sh!te like this gets my back up so as he says if anyone gets offered anything on the list give him a bell it might mean dropping someone you know in the sh!t but it could just as easily been your kit cheers SpeardogWas that in newquay ? S.... like this p....s me off I had my van broken into lately took me cd player satnav other centimentel stuff love to get my hands on those punks. Take them on a long dive.

Had a great afternoon on the north coast today, despite the rain. Went back to basics and went for a dip/explore with just wetsuit and mask. Was actually really nice going in with minimum stuff! Swam around with a very inquisitive young seal, and a much bigger less playful male seal! Viz was about 3-4m.
Just for the record, as nobody else seems to have answered this seriously. We have sharks in NZ (I'm a Cornish expat, which is why I'm lurking here - I like reading about the scene 'back home'), and bump into them pretty regularly when spearfishing. They're very rarely a problem though, they're far more interested in your fish than you. You might well end up losing your catch to them, we call it paying the taxman. But normally if they get too inquisitive you just have to give them a sharp prod with the end of your spear and they bugger off pretty quickly.
First time you see one you shit yourself. After a while it becomes routine and no big deal. You treat them with big respect though, if they seem like they want to stick around then you take the hint and leave the area. And for sure if it's something like a tiger or great white then you absolutely get the hell out of there real quick, although that's incredibly rare.
Don't shoot them though - you'll only annoy it even more this way, and then you're attached to it too! Unless you let go your gun, in which case you've got nothing to defend yourself with at all, and that's a whole lot worse.
There are a few guys in our area who have shot sharks, funnily enough it always seems to be the same guys ; 'oh I really had to, it just wouldn't leave me alone', whereas nobody else has such problems. Bullshit trophy hunting, basically. But actually, whenever this happens (and we all get to hear about it pretty quickly), it turns out to have taken at least one extra shot to actually take the shark down, and is a huge, time consuming and very messy affair, and the pointless slaughter of a beautiful creature. (Which doesn't even taste that great...)..
