Hey All.. hope you've had a good start to the year. I can't say the temperatures over here have made the sea look too inviting for me just yet.. But as soon as it warms up a bit.. hopefully me and SurfnSpear gonna be hitting up some new marks.. further offshore again.. in search of the real Cornish donkeys as I have yet to take my first double-figure Cornish Bass.. hopefully 2013 is the year! Before 2013 I was only in single figures when it came to spearfishing.. that's all changed now after a month in New Zealand! Thought you guys might like to see the footage and a few pics... Freediving the Poor Knights Islands Wildlife Reserve and spearfishing along the East Coast of the North Island. An amazing place to dive and hunt.. beautiful colours, lots of fish.. lots of BIG fish! We were eating Snapper, Kingfish and Kahawai every night! Notable moments were my girlfriend spearing her first fish, epic vis at Poor Knights, snooping for Snapper over epic ground.. smashing more Urchins than I can remember, Shark encounters, getting my first Kingfish on a solo dive at sunset with a big Bronzie hanging around.. and finally.. on the last day, losing the fish of the trip!! We had a great time tho and I'm definitely going back.. cos there's a 30Kg Kingfish swimming around over there with my name still on it!! Enjoy!

Great video, some awesome fishing. I bet the large shark made you a little edgy!

Hey All.. hope you've had a good start to the year.

Great video and so many different species of fish around, it looked like you didnt need a speargun at one point they were just swimming into your hands.
Thats a trip of a lifetime, well done

Thanks all.. yes it was a really amazing trip.. NZ has shot up there on my top 10 places to live.. which is lucky cos my lady is from there! Mmmm.. A Marlin Sportfisher with outriggers and spear gear moored up in the marina.. yepppp.. gonna keep on dreamin!

Spaniard.. the tune.. Royksopp - What else is there.

Wicked vid, looks amazing, well jealous.

Hi guys !
I joined your group because I' ll spent my august holidays in Cornwall, so I wish to begin entering the "atmosphere"...
Did you already open the "fishing season" ???
I' ll do in few weeks... I hope at least, 'cos is still very cold in my area, and fishes too deep...
:wave

Same here...you have plenty of fish in August and warmer waters... Bring a 90cm minimum gun and a float to warn off the boats.

Same hear guys although a little earlier I'm in pentewan at the end of July for a week if anyone fancies getting wet?

Great!
I have experiences in spearfishing in Ireland, Norway , atlantic Spain and Portugal....
Shouldn' t be so different....
Will take with me my C4 Mr. Carbon 99....
Water temperature in August ???
5.5 or 7.5 mm. suit ?

Ahh my neck of the woods. I'll give you some pointers nearer the time and may be about to join you.

Might be a window tomorrow afternoon.................

I've spotted that too, although I think with a head cold at the moment I will have to stay out of the water. I hear that the shore line temps are only arounf 5deg.

Think I might dust off the kayak and get after some bream.

Got in for an hour this afternoon, end of gun viz and very little life seen.
Did see the first shoal of sand eels of the year which bodes well, just need the wind to swing round for a bit. Still, had a nice swim.

Today i will begin the metamorphosis from being on, to being under, the water. Been a great winter for surfing so i hope the spearing can measure up. As mentioned above, this afternoon's favourable conditions have got me packing up my gear for a trip to my local secret spot. Anticipate catching hypothermia more than anything edible but i'll let yoou know the outcome later.
