Subi,
Ankleweights here are 12 euros the pair and I made my neckweight from a bycicle rubber tube and small fishweights, probably cost around 12 -15 euros as well, mostly for the lead.

Adrian

how much does it weigh Aid-re-ahn? :D

Around 2.5 kgs, makes a big difference for dynamic for me.

Aid-re-ahn: now that's a variation I've never seen before! :D

In Paris, it is much more expensive ! 1 ankle weight (0.500 kg) costs 9 €...

I already bought 2 pairs of ankle weights, which makes 2 kg and costs 36 € !

I shall need an additional pair of weights ;

the total cost of the neck weight (3 kg) will amount to 54 € !!!

it is far more expensive than the bicycle rubber full of lead... but is far more comfortable and you can use it for constant weight (the duckdive is then so easy !)

you can also tune the weight around your neck according to the depth you want to swim, according to whether you wear a shorty or not...

Last but not least, there is the following advantage : having a neckweight is good for constant weight since it attracts your head towards the deep... but it is a drawback for horizontal swimming because your fins tend to flap in the air...

then if after your constant weight you want to swim back to the beach, you just untie one of your neckweights and tie them where it belongs : to the ankles, which puts again your fins into the water...

Hi everybody !

I arrived at 2 PM in Marseille ; after putting my luggage at my hotel, I went to "Le Vieux Plongeur" to buy this special 2 € nose-clip recommended by our Israelian friend... This nose-clip seems perfect to me for dynamic and static...

I met at le Vieux Plongeur Peter Pedersen and Karsten Schneider... they are training tonight at Luminy's pool... and tomorrow morning with Jean-Michel in the sea... I am training in the sea at 2 PM tomorrow...

Who is already in Marseille for the comp ?

I envisage to go to Luminy's pool tomorrow noght....

See you...

Anyone have any results?
Peter Pedersen did 197 m ...

Christina Schon, from Germany won the static with about 6'...

Claudia Rollero from Switzerland won the dynamic with about 130 m...

Claude Rolland won the DNF with 118 m

There were very bad meteorological conditions for the training day before constant weight, which perturbated the comp a little bit...

First of all: thank you very much Greg for your hospitality besides the competition! Team Suisse had an unforgettable weekend with lots of fun.
It's always like this: the competition is over and everybody leaves the scene. That's only natural. But I would like to point out that the organisation of the event was very good, thanx to Greg. I joined the training on friday and the conditions were awful: the temperature of the sea has dropped from 25° to 14° due to strong winds and the sea was too rough to anchor the boats: 2m of waves. so the organisation decided to cancel the regular constant weight competition on saturday. nevertheless they organised a spare-competition with zodiacs with a 55m depth limit in a sheltered area. They did that for the athlets who needed a qualification depth for the worlds. We didn't subscribe. Then on Saturday the wind dropped and the sea was flat as a mirror... the athlets who subscribed were very thankful (such as Tanya who did a smooth 55m dive). On Sunday we all gathered at the 50m pool of luminy for static and dynamics. The weather was perfect and the atmoshere very relaxed. Greg and massiliasub did a great job in the setup of the competition zones. Team Suisse could realise two National Records -Claudia even won the dynamics with her solid 127m dynamics. I was happy about my 110m (sorry Rémy for the mixup of the lane) At the end everybody was excited at the announced 155m from Peter. He turned in an amazing 197m performance and surfaced fresh as a spring flower!

I attached some pictures to share the great moments of this competition.

yours
Pat

Hello,

The results are now online :
Results

Some pictures will be following at the end of the week.

Bye
Be careful with abbreviations...

As far as I understood

DYN generally stands for DYNamic apnea (with fins)

DNF generally stands for Dynamic apnea with No fins...

You can also use Dw/oF for Dynamic without fins....

But on your sheets you have :

DYN standing for DYnamic apnea with No fins...

DYF standing for DYnamic with Fins....

This might lead to some confusions...

A nice week spent in Marseille

I arrived in Marseille from Paris on Tuesday the 28th... with TGV (Train à grande Vitesse), it only takes 3 hours...

I left my very heavy luggage at my hotel at "Le Vieux port" and ran to "Le Vieux Plongeur" famous diving shop in Marseille... I wanted to acquire this nose-clip I had seen at one competition in Clermont Ferrand and which was shown by freediver81 from Jaffa's beach :

http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthread.php?t=52940&page=1&pp=40

This excellent nose-clip only costs ... 2 € !! then I could afford buying two of them in case I lose it... one blue and one green one...

At "Le Vieux Plongeur" I met Peter Pedersen and Karsten Schneider... Karsten was looking for a wetsuit for his friend Christina coming from Hamburg, a newbie in freediving (doing nevertheless more than 6'00" in static) ... Apart from this amazing and amazingly cheap nose-clip, the shop was not offering much to freedivers... They were going at 6 PM to Luminy, for pool training...

On Wednesday I had an appointment at 2 PM with the Master Yogi Jean-Michel Pradon
http://massiliasub.free.fr/coupe_2005/galerie/Constant weight/Data/page.htm?137,0

who was doing trainings before the comps... In the morning he had taken care of Peter and Karsten... I was alone for this training session... It was very windy, the sea was quite rough, and there were currents : the cable was not vertical, but went under the boat... I could do 25 m, which was good for a first deep dive after Nice... For the first time of my life, I was a little sea sick while in water...

Afterwards I ate a quick salad and took a bus to Luminy... It was quite a long ride but the pool was in a wonderful place in the open... water temperature 28°C... 50 m length....Tanya Streeter was trainig there, Peter, Karsten... It was a true pool-freediving heaven... I trained there DNF...

On Thursday, again appointment at 2 PM with Master Yogi http://massiliasub.free.fr/coupe_2005/galerie/Constant weight/Data/page.htm?137,0... I was no longer alone but together with the Swiss Delegation : http://www.apneamania.com/scripts/joannam 01.jpg ... and I did not complain too much about it :chatup apart from the fact that being a shallow diver (30 m) I was relegated to the shallow cable :ban while the "deep" ones were training on the deep cable which gave me an intolerable feeling of loneliness :waterwork ... During the boat trip, we could admire the famous Château d'If, where the Count of Monte Cristo was imprisoned in Alexandre Dumas' novel...

The sea was even rougher than the day before, which made the boat trip very uncomfortable... especially for Joanna who understood on this occasion that it is better sitting on the rear part of the boat than on the head in case of rough sea... For me the training was more comfortable in the sea than the day before : the cables were vertical this time (no current)...

Afterwards we went together to Luminy's pool.... we arrived very late, almost at the end of the training... there were only 20 minutes left... I had only time for putting on my wetsuit and doing some warmup apneas... To my great surprise, I broke my own record doing 3'50" during these "warmups" ! (Unfortunately, this was not confirmed during the comp...)

Friday was official training day just before the CWT day... We all took boats heading towards an isolated beach... but the transfer was terrible... the sea was this day very very rough... Funny detail when we arrived at this isolated beach there was an elderly man bathing completely nude in the sea... This person had probably walked several hours to find out an isolated beach where he would be alone and nude... and he was suddenly invaded by dozens of freedivers clad in neopren ! Quite a provocation !

Trainings were very difficult to organize due to the rough sea... The temperature of the sea had fallen from 24°C to 14°C due to the wind ! I had a 5 mm suit and for me it was OK, but many divers coming from Germany or Northern countries had taken a thin wetsuit, thinking that Marseille was the Big South with tropical waters... they suffered from the cold... I had to borrow gloves to train comfortably...

Returning from the training, meeting for the announcements... Due to extreme weather conditions, no more deep dives for the following day... change of location... I announced 28 m...

Saturday, the good weather had unexpectedly done his come back ! And the new location chosen was paradisiac :

http://massiliasub.free.fr/coupe_2005/galerie/Constant weight/Data/page.htm?2,0

http://massiliasub.free.fr/coupe_2005/galerie/Constant weight/Data/page.htm?0,0

and there was the famous Sicilian mafioso Regis Guidone :

http://massiliasub.free.fr/coupe_2005/galerie/Constant weight/Data/page.htm?62,0

http://massiliasub.free.fr/coupe_2005/galerie/Constant weight/Data/page.htm?144,0

I very much improved my English vocabulary... Tanya returning from her dive

http://massiliasub.free.fr/coupe_2005/galerie/Constant weight/Data/page.htm?36,0

http://massiliasub.free.fr/coupe_2005/galerie/Constant weight/Data/page.htm?42,0

http://massiliasub.free.fr/coupe_2005/galerie/Constant weight/Data/page.htm?38,0

http://massiliasub.free.fr/coupe_2005/galerie/Constant weight/Data/page.htm?37,0

asked me in French (she masters French excellently to my great astounding...) " Comment on dit "hose" en Français ?" http://massiliasub.free.fr/coupe_2005/galerie/Constant weight/Data/page.htm?71,0 I did not understand this word and I said "douche" ? She made gestures and I understood... I ran as far as I could to take the hose :p because I strongly believe that wetsuits should be properly taken care of... but when I came back she had disappeared ! :waterwork

At the end of the constant day I attended the dinner on the beach with the German - Helvetic Delegations... Very interesting debates about the theory of nose-clips (Christina Schon, who won the comp in static the following day, is a goldsmith and made very interesting nose-clips... - not in gold I guess... ; I might order one from her one of these days...)

The pool day... wonderful weather, very sunny ; but the water of the pool had lost some precious degrees due to the wind of the preceding days... (from 28°C to 24-25 °C...) which made it not so comfortable for the dynamic, for those only wearing swimming suits...

Astounding performance (197 m) by Peter Pedersen...

All the results there : http://massiliasub.free.fr/coupe_2005/resultats.html

An evening was announced at the Sports Beach at 10 PM :friday ... but I fell asleep on my bed, exhausted not so much with the apnea as with the sun... and woke up the following morning... I probably have missed something... :waterwork

In the end I did not reach my 28 m due to ear problem at 24 m (24 m obtained) ; I did a poor 3'18" in static which did not confirm the static training of 3 days before... ; in DNF 68 m (3 meters increase on previous dive in Nice...)

In conclusion : a very intense week in Marseille !
