There is still time to book up for a couple of days in Guernsey...
The weekend is more about having fun than anything else, nobody will be committed to anything apart from having a laugh - however we will be spearing some fish if you fancy that?

Agree Foxfish - we've got a good bunch but want more people to join in - excellent chance to meet fellow freedivers and spearos from here on DB.

Join in with us all - still time to book up!

Just waiting on confirmation of time off work......finger poised over pay now on condor ferry site! ;-D All being well I'll be coming on the wed night and leaving on the sunday night (unfortunately :waterwork). Got to be back in Aberdeen by monday night.

I intend to dive most days I'm there so I'll be taking anyone up on offers for gettin out, swimming or kayak!

Hi all,

I am new to the forum here and hoping to find some diving buddies as it would appear the spearo is a fairly rare breed! I live on the South Coast of the UK, down by Southampton, but would love to jump on the bandwagon and join this trip if that would be possible? The only catch is that I am 18 years old and although a safe and relatively competent spearo I am not particularly experienced. As a result would be rather hesitant as the last thing I want is to be a burden. I was just wondering whether perhaps this would be a viable way for me to meet like minded spearos and enjoy a few dives?

Many thanks in advance. All the best,

Hugo

Hugo, you will be very welcome to join in.
There is no problem with you coming over to Guernsey

Well I have been working hard to get my garden & fire house ready for you guys!
Now with an outdoor fire and indoor fire!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just had a look at the Condor time table for the fast ferry from Pool to Guernsey.
On the fish in weekend dates they are offering ... Saturday the 4th of August leaving pool at 5am, arriving in Guernsey at 8am, then leaving Guernsey the next day at 9.45pm price £65 return.
That would mean two full days in Guernsey, with just one nights accommodation to find.
If folk are prepared to rough it a bit - there is plenty of room to camp on my lawn!

Nice one Mart! thats a good offer eh! if anyone wants to do the ferry thing then i would be happy to offer lifts from the ferry to the 'campsite'...

Those are the exact sailings i'm booked on, so if anybody's going at those times, let me know. It would be nice to have somebody to chat to on the journey.

And to the kind offer of a camping space - yes please! I was going to camp on my auntie and uncle's lawn, but it looks like the party's at yours! I'll be cycling over with my spearing and camping kit in my bike trailer, so I won't take up much space!

We are getting nearer the date now however, we are still not sure about numbers!

If any of you guys are definitely coming but have yet to register here UK Member Meet 2012 | DeeperBlue.com could you please do so

I want to finalise the spearfishing competitions over the next couple of days & it would be very helpful to know who wants to participate in the competitions too.

I really must stress that we want the competitions to be fun without the emphasis on big catches or the deepest diver.

So far we have decided on having a two day competition event based on the best eating specimen fish.
We will hunt for certain fish & have a limit of three entries per day of each species per diver.

Just to add a twist though - there will be prizes for the biggest fish & the fish closest to a set target weight.

For instance - the bass target will be set at 4lb & the mullet set at 2.5lb
So after the two days the diver who has speared a mullet closest to the target will win a prize as well as the guy who has speared the biggest mullet.
The overall winner will be the diver with the most specimens regardless of size (within the set limits)
Bass.
Flatfish
Bream
Gurnard
Mullet
Pollock
Mackerel etc
Excluding wrasse & conger but including lobster, scallops & crabs!
I will set out a complete list of fish & specimen sizes in the next few days..
Anyone want to add or suggest fish please do so.....

August 04 - Day one specimen competition times....
Registration sign on @ 10.30am - sign out @ 16.00pm Weigh in @ Craigwillan (my house) @ 17.00pm
Boat to Herm leaves St peter Port @ 19.15pm
August 05 - Day two specimen competition times....
Registration sign on @ 11.00am - sigh out @ 17.30pm weigh in @ Craigwillian @ 18.30

NB. low tide on day one = 15.18 @ 1.1mt - day two low tide @ 15.54 @ 1.3

How does that sound?
I have had to consider folk arriving on Sat morning & the Herm trip, also folk leaving on Sunday so the times are a slight compromise!
Will we have time to get the Herm ferry?

Looks good, just wondering if I have already registered, I don't know how to find out. Does anyone else knows how to find out?
