Deepest freedivers of the world

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Dear Bill,

My coment about nervus man was more pointed to the pool results, like STA and DYN, latest gaf was Maribor, countless more before that. There is manny divers going deep, long... But there is a big diference in practise and competition results. One can't see Sietas for eq gooing around and saying he's DNF is 221m and STA 10:8min... But like I sad before I do not wanna go in Kike Curavic debate, realy do not wanna go there, this ends here.

I wish him all the best, but I will spend no more word's on him.
 
Goran, I really don't see a problem here.The name of this thread is "Deepest freedivers of the world", so if Kike did 88m in training he IS among the deepest freedivers in the world.
Many results that we can see here had been done UNOFFICIALLY just like Kike's 88m CW.

Just curious as I don't presume to know the answer, but why chose 65m and 80m? I understand the general ratio between bi-fins and monos, and I know you have to chose some depths, by what reasons for these two numbers?

hmm - no real arguments for that other than 80 is a nice round number, and a limit that separates realy hard training talented athletes from just talented ones... I guess. 65 bifins seemed to be the same kind of achievement as 80 mono.

David Lee, Jamaica, set 65m UCB record in 2004 under the rules of F.R.E.E. (UCB = Unassisted Constant Ballast = CNF / Constant Weight No Fins)

Okay, so I don't wanna ruin the flow of this, but how many divers have gone beyond 100m with fins?

P.S. That Kike dude sounds like he can dive! Personally, I think that while the real proving grounds are the comps, I think that a guy like Kike will get just as much respect for the achievement as the competition divers diving the same depths.

Isn't this increddible? So many people getting such increddible depths?

For me it's a kind of strange feeling going to depths that were near or world records just a few decades ago with relativly so little training.
CW 50m today is pretty normal for divers who have been practicing for a few years.

This year I hope to reach the regeon of the 70 meters in CW, it depents on how much depth time I able to get, and the deep area's I'm able to go to. There is no safe -70m spot close by here in the Netherlands (

Will we see 115m, 120m CW this year?
Will we see 90m CWNF this year?

Dave Mullins 100m CW? Well I don't know him personally but another member of this site told me a couple of weeks ago that Dave would probaly be the first New Zealander to past the 100m mark. He has already done 80m which was a NR at the time but was beaten by 2m 15 minutes later by Ant Williams.
Dave is apparently trying for 3 NR in Dahab between 7- 9 June. In CW he will be trying for 83m. See www.freedive.co.nz for more info.

Timo Jattu has done at least 90m, Ryuzo Shinomiya has done 93m, Umberto 98m... William Winram (78m CNF) could be a dark horse for the next 100m man-- his 84m Canadian record was apparently quite easy (not surprising for someone who can do 80m+ without fins).

My goal this year is to do 92m (300ft) FRC at the CAFA nationals in August. I think this would be the world record for FRC diving, although this is not recognized as a separate category. The video of the last CAFA competition with my 57m FRC dive caused some confusion among viewers who couldn't understand how I could be sinking right from the beginning!
 
Wishing you good luck with setting the record, Eric, regardless if it is official or not. Is the mentioned video available online somewhere? I would love to see it (or other FRC diving videos).
 
There is a DVD of the latest CAFA competition which has been circulating. If I manage to get a copy I will put the 57m FRC dive video online...

I agree with Eric, William is a very strong diver indeed - his dives are improving very rapidly especially if you take into account that he doesn's have access to deep waters with good conditions ( his normal diving location is a Swiss lake with a max depth of 47m and bad conditions). He will most likely be in Greece training this summer and hopefully he will short out his equalisation issues at 80+...
