Deepest freedivers of the world

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Dave Mullins has done a 92mtr CW with a mono the last couple of days and will be attempting the 100mtr mark soon. All the best with your attempt Dave.

Dave Mullins has done 90m yesterday in Dahab extremely easy, new official NR. Tomorow he will try 100m...

Balázs

Wow! Where'd he sneak in from? Fantastic to see another diver get into the 90+ club, even better that he's from my side of the pond :D

Well done Dave!

BennyB, you Aussies try to lay claim all the time.
Word from Dave this morning is the new official New Zealand CW record is 90mtrs. Well done.
Dave has been competitive freediving for several years on the local scene. He is an accomplished spearo, holding at least one WR for spearing a marlin. (sorry can't give more details) He normally doesn't say alot but get him near the water and he is an encyclopedia of knowledge.
I hope you shake your bug Dave to get the chance at some more dives before you come home to the freezing southerlies.

Gongratulations on your new NZ record Dave sounds like you are doing some awesome dives, good luck and I hope you get to 100m.
I haven't being around for a while but have followed everbodies progress from a far and hope to be in Wellington for the comp in Oct.

What a great achievement Dave, congratulations!!!!! you have joined a club that few freedivers can belong to, also over the last week have taken the NZ record from 82m to 100m.........john

Quick way to verify this list at least through the end of 2006 would be to download all the AIDA ranking lists and check them. They are not complete but still a pretty good source.

Walt

you would miss a lot of national record attempts/worl records. For example the 100 meter dive from Dave will not be in the ranking list as the ranking list only contains competitions.

Re: 33 and counting

UPDATE - Theo Ivanovic joins the ranks of 80 meter divers.

Ratio between mono and bifins dives seems to be about 1.2

OK 100 meter list demanded.

111 m Herbert Nitsch
109 m Guillaume Néry
108 m Martin Štìpánek
105 m Carlos Coste
Sebastien Murat ?

More interesting. Who will be the next?

Well, i believe there was at least Dave Mullins (New Zealand) and Juraj Karpis (Slovakia) who joined the 100m club, but recently there is another new member - Ryuzo Shinomiya. According to VerticalBlue's website, he is the seventh member of the 100m club.

More details at William Trubridge News and at :: Ryuzo Apnea Blog | ¡Ý£±£°£°£í¡¡Club¡¡Æþ²ñ :: (or an online translation link)

So the complete list, as far as I know is now:

112 m Herbert Nitsch (Austria)
110 m Dave Mullins (New Zealand)
109 m Guillaume Néry (France)
108 m Martin Štěpánek (Czech Rep.)
105 m Carlos Coste (Venezuela)
101 m Juraj Karpiš (Slovakia)
101 m Ryuzo Shinomiya (Japan)

As a born Czechoslovak, I can't resist noting that the former Czechoslovakia is recently the only country with two 100+ m freedivers :) (Martin and Juraj). Well, one could also claim that the former Austrian Monarchy (which included recent Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia too) has three 100m freedivers, but that's already a rather long shot :)

Is now a good time to add Andy Norlander to the list? Kona resident and PFI team member. He did 80 (the max allowed) on his first competition dive and five dives in six attempts 'to the sand' (83-84 depending on tide) in the last month or so. It will be interesting to see what he does in Cayman next month if he gets a little time off to rest.

Really? Wow! :friday

I remember that Andy drove up from California to volunteer at the 2004 Worlds in Vancouver. He was a really nice guy and I had no idea he had 80m+ in him. Fantastic!

Hehe Dave, indeed a very fast ascent :D
Maybe a true sprint fin is the way to go?

Less bottom time means less narcosis, less nitrogen buildup, recovery?

Anyway a nice idea to test out. I did a nice and speedy dive in Sweden, and indeed it feels great to 'fly' up, instead of creaping meter for meter...

Anyway I'm always hungry for reports from The Vertical blue preperations and competiton. How is everybody ding down there?

Kars
