Wondering if anyone was planning to get out and dive on the 22nd? I hop to have a wetsuit to break in and maybe a Cayman HF to toy with.

where were you thinking of trying? Lake Geneva might not be too bad- I should have the day off - so I am a possibilty for that day - just let me know where you want to go. We could also maybe go to Lake mich. in Kenosha and maybe some of the S.E. guys will come.

I'm open to suggestions on the lake, ya'll know 'em better than me.

I may be open in the AM on 9/22...keep posting updates here. Would like to go where we could spear some carp, but am open to anything...just about.:)

Oshkosh is about a 5 hour trip for me. So if I leave at 5am I can be up that way around 10 - 10:30. If your considering am earlier than that, I'll have to make some arrangements to leave after I leave the dive shop Fri night at 8:00. I'm up for a carp hunt. Again, looks like the s.e. corner of the state has two interested and I don't know what lake would be best. Throw it out there and see if it sticks!

Lake Michigan or Lake Geneva....both can have good spearing for rough fish. I'd say Lake Michigan would be the best bet for clarity and less boat traffic.

Me and Whopperhead are heading out of SSYC in Milwaukee at around noonish on the 17th...If conditions are good I'd say we meet there at a designated time on the 22nd...But alot can change on the big lake in 5 days.

Either way...On the weekends..I'll be goin' somewhere for the next 6 weeks!

Either is good. I'll wait to hear the report and we can make a firm decision middle to end of next week. I don't know what SSYC is either.

South Shore Yacht Club - it's south of Milwaukee or it is south Milwaukee- I just meet at Bgill's house .

I'd be willing to go to SSYC if the conditions are good. The earlier in the AM, the better for me.

10 a.m. Is a good time...most of the fishermen are gone by then.

I can bring my canoe if its 3 or less people. Then we paddle out to the rocks and suit up in a really shallow area...From there we follow the edge of the rocks around to the outside - There are plenty of fish inside...but the deeper clearer water is on the outside - Seems like much bigger carp too!

If someone has a boat - That would be Ideal - But in my world most things are a little less than ideal...I work through it and still have an awesome time!
Maybe Livebaitboy will read this and want to go...He has a boat! Not sure if he gets that excited about carp killin' though.

Me and Whopperhead will surely post how the 17th goes...Probably some good video too!!!! I can't wait!

Are you diving to the north or south or the relief gap off of south shore?

South is shallower, and where I've seen more carp, but north is a bit deeper and more interesting- where I've seen more salmon come in to die after spawning.

If you go further south, down by the soccer fields, and stay close to the weed beds next to shore, like no more than 20 yards out, I've seen a ton of rock bass hanging out there in the past. The only problem with this area is that we might be coming up on duck hunting season and the place is filled with shotguns and boats.

I'd like to promise that I could make it, I've got a new gun coming that I'm dying to try out, but I'll have to see what the weather, and family, have to say before I can commit to anything.

Jon

Depending on the weather - I would be willing to haul down my boat- We could get 6 guys in it and gear- Duck season doesn't start down here till the 29th - But I am just hoping for some good calm weather ;) I ordered a Beuchat Marlin 115cm - It should be here today - I can't wait to try it.

Sounds cool, I just got my, new to me, Mares Cryano 970 that I want to give a shot.

I got off the phone with the father-in-law an hour ago and he said that the winds were out of the north west at 25-30mph and vis was down to less than 5' inside the breakwall- he was doing an underwater video job along the sea wall by the Coast Guard station. Looks like his canceling tomorrow's charter due to the weather.

Hopefully things will look a bit better by next weekend, but I wouldn't count on it as we are getting into the windy season- that time of the year when most of the ships sunk in Lake Michigan actually went down.

Jon

Bummer about the clarity....There is always shallow on Lake Geneva. I say shallow because of ALL the boats. On the other hand though - If you look at fishing reports on Lake-Link, the number of them (reports) goes WAAAAAAAY down after Labor Day weekend. Seems alot of the "fair weather fishermen" must put thier boats away!!!!

:t Jon....As always...I can't thank you enough...you are a WEALTH of good info.:t

BTW...I usually go a little north - Towards the CG station.

ILDiver...you there? This was YOUR idea!!!

I'm here. I'm waiting to see what comes up final! Geneva is fine with me if you guys say so. I'm not a fan of rougher waters :) Like I said before, you guys know the lakes and areas better than I do. I'm a sheep along to learn.

Whopperhead, I may need to borrow a gun. My boss still has not placed the order. She was "going to do it today, but..." again. Frustrating, I was hoping she would place the order at the beginning of last week and I'd have a shot at getting it. Can't cry about it though, I'll use my Henderson again and get by.

One thing on choice of locations. I can get to 30' but not sure I can stay and get a fish at that depth. 20' or less might be a little more comfortable for my first time with a speargun. I plan to go at my own pace and not push things obviously.

And I'm in for where ever gets decided. I'm following the thread.

I have Plenty of Spearguns- 4 for pan and bigger fish and 1 only for Panfish. I usually stay around the shallow areas- as that is usually were the fish are- I hardly ever seen anything past 30' Plus - I still am a Beginner with some experience. :) I've never been in Lake Geneva - I'm not sure where we would go in at. The weather will play the biggest role - as to where we will go- ILDiver - I could also meet you in Beloit if you want- I take I90 to beloit then head over on I43 and then to some other roads. Your call. Either way I'm shooting some fish- Hopefully some Carp!:martial

Looks I may be bringing another guy along who wants to get into spearing. I won't know for certain until Wed/Thurs.
