otree are open on sunday 10-3 . they stock imersion 5mm socks. open cell with double lined bottom very comfortable. i use a similar . i have camo ones that i made myself.

Just got back from a trip to Newton's Cove. Only 1m viz there, so went round the corner (with Speerolee) to Castle Cove and had a lovely few hours swimming in viz from 2 - 5m but didn't see a single silver fish. Where have they all gone? Took 2 medium wrasse to make some tasty chili fishcakes. Still, nice to get in the water, try a new spot, and to meet another spearo.
No was a lovely big bass I think it was not well it had a spinner in its tail. Was still swimming around last night late.
To finish off a lovely day I went down to Hive beach at Burton Bradstock to go and have a fly along the cliffs on my paraglider. Afterwards I was chatting to a couple of anglers and they said they were coming home empty-handed again and they were wondering where all the fish had gone. I told them that I had been finding the same thing recently, and they told me about a group of people who have been selling huge quantities of good-sized bass along the roads around Weymouth and the surrounding area. Apparently these people are selling buckets of lovely (apparently line-caught) bass in lay-bys for not a lot of money. Anybody know any more about this? Sounds a bit suspect to me.
Regarding the bass being sold at the side of the road, obviously I can't say that this is the case all the time but I do know some of the commercial rod n line bass boats used to sell some of their fish this way if they weren't getting a good price at market. As far as I know it's all above board but I'm no expert on fishing licensing.
Yep the ones I have seen are local guys selling Bass caught local , they are catching Bass at mo not in large quantities very poor at moment . They started selling by side of road a couple of years ago probably to cut out middle man. Stooped and had a chat with one who used to do a lot of spearfishing some time ago.
hi guys. im thinking of trying out the east side of portland soon. does anyone spear that side that could give me some advise? west side is my normal hunting ground so tide is no issue.but not sure about the east side. any advise would be much appreciated as dont want to cause myself any harm.
Hi Nobby bit of a novice but church ope cove is quite a good spot, when you get in go to left and follow rocks out some nice little places down there. Have had some nice sole on edge of sand. Round to right there is a nice drop off. Cheyne not to bad either but getting in and out can be a bit of a mare ( very slippy). There has been alot of pots down there this year and the odd net ! if you drift with tide towards Bill the tide rips around godnor point .
Just watch out there if you are not familiar with the current it is very easy to get into trouble at certain states of the tide. The tidal current of the Bill is a funny thing - close to the bill on the east coast you are in a slow big eddy where you can fish some way out - but boy if you get caught up in it further out it becomes irresistable - honest I know and have some stories myself. The stretch between balaclava bay up to the first point - think its grove point looks nice and I know people who fish it with some success. I reckon you are better off on the west generally out around Tar rocks out of Chesil personally and the current there is not too strong throughout the cycle. Have you tried Osmington?
Church Ope is nice but not had fish there myself. Swam a long way out off the east about a month ago but bottled out about 500m offshore - could feel the pull and had a hard swim back in for no fish - stays shallow for a long time. Wouldn't recommend doing it without boat cover...
I've seen this at "a popular local garage" too but it looked open, professional and above board (a clean white van, proper fish boxes, ice, etc.) - but who knows. He apparently provided folk with a convenient, reasonably priced, popular service - he'd sold out except for a few scallops when I saw him packing up. Reckoned tit had all been caught that day by himself & a few friends.
[Note: selling *speared* fish in the UK though would be illegal.]
Guys great news. I have figured out how to spend £180 for nothing. Ok here goes
1. Decide to dive at Newtons Cove
2. Park at the pay and display parking
3. Get kitted up and don't forget to pay for that parking.
4. Place your parking ticket on your window.
5. Enjoy your dive.
Now repeat this easy 5 step process 3 times.
Now times the £60 parking fine 3 times
Amazing. Please all be warned. I really have no idea how this happened as I always throw my old tickets away and by the time the first ticket came through I had parked all three times.

cheers for the info on east side . i am a local lad and spent all of my summers out the bill from about the age of 10 cliff jumping. i do have a good knolage of the current round that area but only from close in. i have done some research with divers and having a boss that is an old school spearo but is always worth asking other people
Ah our traffic wardens work in stealth mode as well in Weymouth they even gave me a ticket whilst driving !

Bad luck with the parking tickets (I never use pay and display carparks - I just park further away on the street and walk, but maybe that's more because I don't like giving them the money!). Was there any viz at Newton's Cove? And more importantly, and fish? Last few times I've been down there has been nothing but wrasse.
Yes be warned, they have those cameras logging your numbers. Take note that they know what time you drive in and drive out. So it is of no use buying a ticket if your total time in car park is over what you have paid for.
Cesar paid for a ticket, but only once kitted up and ready to dive thinking that he had time from the ticket. Not so, time paid for: 3 hours, time in car park till leaving, about 3 and a half hours. Next, fine for £60, tried appealing but they came back with the time date stamp photo of entry and exit.
Feckers.
That's a ridiculous system! What if I decided to drive in and drive around and around the carpark for 2 hours without stopping and then drive out again? No, of course I wouldn't do that, but it does demonstrate what a ridiculous system they've got in place. I think I'd refuse to pay that ticket along with an angry letter stating why I'm not paying it. I have done that in the past with a similar situation and ended up not having to pay it. Worth a punt.
Moral of this story - don't park in that stupid carpark! There's lots of on-street parking around there if you don't mind a short walk.
