Dorset Spear Fishing 2012

i have read through crystal clear mags that come through my old works door. loved them but woul relly like a uk spearo book with tips. know of any??? easy read tho !!!

My favourite spearo book is - the last of the blue water hunters by Carlos Eyles - I almost know it off by heart!

Thanks for the links. I've read a couple of free diving books, will defiantly purchase one of these Spearo books. A monthly uk Spearo mag would be great.

I recently read 'No Sharks Today' and 'The Lonely Sea'. Both excellent inspiring books to fill those diveless nights. I'm also about to read 'Modern Spearfishing' which is a spearfishing handbook written in (I think) the '50s, interesting and entertaining!

I've got the Spearfisherman's Handbook by David Way, which I found very good. I'm sure the kit has improved from the basic old fashioned gear (though tbh not that much!) but I'm sure the techniques haven't. Trouble is most Spearo books on Amazon UK etc are bloody expensive.. Still, good reading for novices who want to read more.

Ah had that handbook long time ago brilliant book lean't it to a friend and never got it back :( some good info and great bits one is about Bob Milverton and a shark off Pulpit !

hi guys, got in tonight for a dive with searo lee, viz was good lee got 3 nice size flounder and a ray. well done mate!! i got 2 nice flounder . at first i thought i had a plaice and a flounder but on closer inspection both was flounders. 1 is one of them hybrid cross breads. orange spots but flounder shape. still good catch and water still warm.

Couldn't resist - went on Amazon and bought the handbook. There are a few used copies on there for £7 ish.

Nice dive with nobby. 3 tasty flounder and a nice ray. Don't usualy take ray but after talking with Tom and new recipes I decided to take this one; should be more than enough for me, her and my daughter.

Will post pics up in the morning.

Top job on the night dive fella’s.
We spent Sunday on Chisel Beach along with 7 million other hopeful fools and caught the sum total of 2 Pout and a Whiting.

Bummer, surprised the coddling were not about. It's been a fantastic season for them (for beach casting). Waiting for chesil to clear to hit a few not so well known wrecks, hopefully bang out a few jumbo pollack and maybe a coddling or two on the end of my spear. Maybe the weekend?

But for n ow sticking to the usual sheltered night dive spots; roll on Tuesday night!

Oh and here are some more pics from last nights dive.

I do like my gas powered rocket launcher of a speargun; but found it a little 'overkill' when flattie bashing; great if you want to bore 1 inch holes into them! and a pain in the a** trying to pull out the double flopper tip.

Think I'll stick taking my new banded gun out for night dives when it arrives.

Yes mate, roll on tomorrow night. I can't wait to get in the water again and stock up the freezer with more of those flatties! I've never dived so much in mid-winter before and I'm loving it. :D

ha ha !!!! the mrs still aint happy about the tumble drier now even more so with my stinking towel. that much so i gotta wash the towel:( stll always funny to wind the mrs up! even more so that my boy is big time in to spearfishing. cant wait till he is old enough to come out with me:):):)

Excellent dive tonight with Lee and Nobby (sorry to have missed you Matt, but glad your dive was good).

Top secret location of course :mute Got in at 7.30pm and swam about a bit, not seeing much. Nobby got a flounder. Then Lee and I suddenly found ourselves among a shoal of large bass. My brain stopped working and I took a shot at a good 5-6 pounder and it exploded up out of the water and got away :waterwork Lee got a nice bass out of the shoal. Swam along a bit and shot a decent sole :D Lee then got back in to be confronted with a mullet the size of a dolphin, but sadly his brain had stopped working too and it got away :head

I got out after just over 2 hours as I was getting a bit shivery, but Lee and Nobby carried on and I left them to it as I warmed up with a slice of cake and brandy coffee. Lovely.
