as tom said fantastic dive. lots of silver fish seen but brains not kicking in:duh. after tom getting out and me feeling silly for not taking a decent shot on a shoal of jumbo mullet spearo lee and i stayed in , then bumped into 2 big mullet. i didnt need a 2nd invite made the shot !! letting go of my gun and franticly fighting a very unhappy mullet in the dark gave a good light show for lee but after tom and lees catch this 1 was not getting away!!! was truely an amazing dive and was rewarded for staying in :):):) lees bass 3lb . my mullet 6lb.

Yep, truly an awesome dive tonight.

in very shallow water! I couldn't believe my eyes when Tom and I came across the shoal of bass; must have been 10-15 fish from 3-7lb! I spooked the shoal, they swam at Tom, Tom spooked them, they swam back at me and then back at Tom, I was just looking at them thinking which one?? then I saw Tom take a shot and promtly I took a shot at the nearest one (a 3lber)Tom ballzed his up :) but I nailed mine through the head. Got out and dealt with the fish whilst the other 2 carried on. 2 mins later, fish in the bag loaded gun and slid on my belly in 2 foot of water only to be confronted by the BIGGEST mullet I have ever seen; must have been in the 11-12lb bracket; I panicked and took a hasty un-aimed shot at the fish which was only a meter from my gun, nailed it and all hell broke loose,,,,then no blooming fish....GRRRRRRR.

Caught up with the others, I missed a good sole. Nobby went of to my secret hole as he was feely very inadequate with his flounder. We decided to follow about 10 mins behind him, I nailed 2 flounder on the way over. Got to the hole and Nobby was cussing away about the fact that he went brain dead on some more jumbo mullet at least 20 of them in the 5-8lb range, but they had all buggered of by now.

Tom was feeling the cold and got out. Nobby and I decided to head back to where we spotted the bass; good call. When we got there we spotted 2 mullet one at 6lb and the other a lot bigger at around 8-9lb, Nobby nailed the 6lber and the biggy swam right past my spear, unfortunately Nobby was also in front of me wrestling a mullet, so didn't take a shot, instead helped Nobby tame the beast.

I know where I'm going tomorrow!!!

My bass 3lb and Nobby's mullet only 1lb I'm afraid!

Nah, just dead jealous, his was a whopping 6lb!!!

Lads thats some awesome diving!! What temp was the water?
Just goes to show the fish are still there for those who dare ;)
If someone had made a Fish of Winter thread that mullet would be a serious contender :)

Good effort lads, shame I missed you. I would have joined you if I had of taken my phone with me. I went in at the original location and decided to venture in for 1.5 hours.

Came back with 2 flounder (1.5lb each) and a plaice (1.75lb).

Pics to follow

What time did you get in? Cus when we got ther at 6 ish the vis was less than 1 meter, hence changing location. What was the vis in the end? Oh and we'll done on the flat ones.

Thanks, water temp was 11.5 in the shallows. Vis wasn't great 2 meters.

I got in at 19:30. Vis was alright a bit patchy. But once under the surface it cleared up a bit. Plus I bought a torch the same as Toms so that helped a lot

For some reason my photobucket is playing up so will try to upload pics later

Another night dive tonight with Nobby and Barny; nice to meet you mate.

Well not much to report really. I managed a 3lb mullet, it was holed up in a cave and I nailed it with an exact head shot from above; getting good at these head shots! then just before I got out I nailed a nice fat 2lb flounder.

nice going lee!! However your tray could do with a clean ;)

That's the cleanest one!

The misses wont let me use any other, that one has been specifically labled as the only one I'm allowed to put stinky fish on.

SPEARGUN news!!!

Hey good news on my spearun,,,,it's arrived!!

Bad news is that it was taken by HM customs and revenue,,so I have to pay £22.00 import VAT and an £8.00 clearance fee before they can release it!!

The robbing ba*###s!

Oh well never mind, can't complain as no ones to fault, just one of those things. still happy :)

I'll post up some pics and a review once I've used it.

Just eaten the sole I shot a few nights ago. It was amazingly lovely. That was my first sole, so I was determined to cook it right.

I filleted it and cooked it in a frying pan with simmering milk, parsley, melted butter, garlic, and salt and pepper. Cooked it for 4 minutes and then served it with steamed courgettes and slices of potato cooked in the oven with olive oil and garlic. DELICIOUS.

Good on ya.

They really are the king of fish when it comes to eating, lets hope you pin another tonight mate.

Goodluck
