Dorset Spearfishing 2013

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Now the Xmas drinking and eating has been done, hopefully the high pressure coming in allows us to get wet, try out new gear and shoot some fish : )

Guys Happy New Year one and all

Put this on devon thread as well

I need some advice please. I’m looking to get an Inflatable board for my kit. Won’t bother you with previous set ups.
Anyway I’ve trawled the Internet and come up with the following.
Can you guys give your experiences / views and any others out there that I may have missed. The two that stand out for me are the Beuchat (bit pricey if I’m honest) and the Okipa 2 (£76 shipped from Spain)

Hi Guys,

Out and about with the Mrs and the Dog today so thought i'd show you the state of the harbour bays.

Looks like the south side of Portland harbour will offer a number of spots with a good few meters vis to get in with your new christmas toys. Here's the pics to try to judge for your self.

Unless my plans change i'll be having a nosey tonight to see if its a good as it looks.

Here's to a good 2013

Lee: I ordered my Beauchat Guardian from a Spanish retailer and got it a bit cheaper.
SUBPROF.COM | Spearfishing , Scuba, Fishing, Swimming, Nautical online Shop

An EU tax is added at checkout I think but still worked out cheaper than buying in from the UK (how much now I can't remember). The seller speaks English. I called first to confirm stock.

Their website is in Spanish but it does have a UK flag button to change the language on the site.

I haven't had my Guardian long enough to form an experienced opinion. However, the build quality is excellent, clearly a lot of thought has gone into the design of this product.

Thanks for the useful post Slicky. Unfortunately there is no visibility like that close to me. I may be travelling down towards Weymouth soon.

Certainly looks do-able good luck look forward to your report.

You Dorset boys do a lot of night dives what size gun do you find best?
Find my 75 to big as fish often in close, looking at a cressi/beuchat. 45 or similar.
Looked at sale items but fancy new really and want to stay with bands for now
Any thoughts on guns/float appriceated

Opening up a right can of worms there!

Personally i like the 55cm I’ve got, though i can't say i put a lot of thought into what size i wanted as i got given it by a mate who didn't get into spearing. I stuck some 19mm bands on it to maximise penetration up close in case i bump into a biggie which seems to be working nicely so far.

That said there are many different views, if you happen to be able to try some guns before you buy that would be best.

All i can say is that so far my 55 has done the job nicely at night. I've owned a couple of pneumatic guns in the past but preferred the band guns.

Good luck!
