Dorset Spearfishing 2013

Had a good dive with Lee last night as we managed to find some viz

I came accross the Thorny at a depth of 5m, it tipped the scales at just over 6lb not really my chosen quarry but after such a sparse winter I decided to take it.

Scallops and Thorny for lunch

Is it worth and can anyone explain how you enter fish of the month?

Filleting Thornback Rays
Step one off with the head.


Step two the same to the other end removing all of the innards.

Step 3 remove the skin from the top of the fillets.



Same to the skin on the bottom of the fillet which pulls off easier than the top!

Great skills, I have been put off taking rays in the past due to the hassle, now I am almost tempted, although I haven't seen these sizes. ;o)

The two fillets off of the Ray pictured weighed in at a total of 4lb and along with the other Ray kindly donated by Lee I managed to feed 4 Adults and two children all with healthy appetites.



Definitely recommend the samphire!
