When I visited Durlston earlier this week I noticed they had a live weather display in the castle there. Just checked and it's online also.
I normally use the Poole Live Weather to check live wind direction & speed but if I am planning on visiting this area (including Swanage & Worth) I will use this one now.

Can't wait to hear the story
Got in at Durlston last night. I figured I could find shelter from the N to NE wind. However, it was blowing straight into the bay when I got there. Just checked google earth and I misjudged the direction.
Anyway, the sea was a bit lumpy. I stayed in for about an hour, but didn't feel that comfortable with the swell and as the vis was a cloudy 1 to 2m came out. Saw a shoal of bass cruise up by me, stop in their tracks and shoot off in the opposite direction. For a while an almost sizeable pollack was following me around.
I attracted some attention from people standing on the cliff tops what with my light being in the water... those XTar's are very bright. I was hoping people didn't think I was in trouble and they wouldn't call the coastguard... have had that happen to me before when kayak night fishing.
When I got out I 'Sh*t the life out' of the group by a campfire on the beach (her words not mine).
I think I will only do night dives when the conditions are perfect and the sea is completely flat.
btw, the vis around the chain ferry was excellent, at least 3m... could see lots of sandeel and a few launce.. too many people fishing there though. Swanage looked a bit murky but still doable.

Went out yesterday afternoon with Rog. Got in at branksome for a look around, no big fish seen at all, saw a nice size lobster which is a first for me. Tried working out how to get it out of its hike and getting a hold of it however this didn't go to plan and it ended up coming out of the hole, doing a 180 degrees spin and bare its claws then swam off (need to work on techniques and maybe get a crab claw thing) on our way back in I had a quick look around the groin at the shore and saw a bass, quickly aimed and took the shot. Fish on, when I grabbed the fish the spear just fell off the fish. Luckily it didn't fight as otherwise I would have lost it. 2lb + bass in the end.
We got in the car and headed off to another location, vis at the shore was soo milky you could hardly see your hand in front of face, we kept swimming to find the vis improve to around 3m. A quick look around, picked up a nice crab. Saw a nice shoal of sizeable fish swim past out of range though and never saw them again. That's it for now, won't get in for about a month now due to work commitments unfortunately. Happy fishing guys.

The weekend is looking good, with the wind dying off on thursday and staying low jnto the weekend, anyone fancy heading out by boat from portland? As my normal buddy is away this weekend but I still fancy getting in while its nice!

Sounds ok to me mate will give it a crack I think a quick one mid week then a more detailed search on the weekend if its ok!
gonna give the usual spots a check now. will let you know how we get on! at least checking all the spots round here should only take 30mins!
I can tell you that hallsands has no visand that it's not worth the 5 hour round trip....

I am planning to go spearfishing tomorrow morning somewhere in Purbecks,could anybody give a viz report????
I tried Swanage on thursday night and end up in the pub,I am hoping it has cleared up a bit this weekend.
Obviously if somebody would like to join me ... most welcome too!!!

I have been checking the Swanage webcam this afternoon - it looks doable.

East end of Poole Bay the vis did not look so good this morning ... groyne 51 looks around a metre. However, instead of driving west to Swanage, I will try Hengistbury. The water has been flat all day and the swell minimal.. I am hoping the vis has improved since this morning. Not much fishing gear in the sea at the moment down here, I am surprised.
Perhaps this is partly why.... UPDATED WITH VIDEO: Poole fishermen rescued as boat sinks in Solent (From Bournemouth Echo)
