Anyone know what vis is like in the harbour? I've been high and dry for weeks now but might have the chance of a quick dip at high tide tomorrow.

Got in at Hengistbury area this evening. The tide was fast, didn't get long to explore the area I wanted to...I will fish it over the double high next time. I saw a number of lobster and took home my first sizeable brown crab. Also had gurnard and sole. Left lots of undersized flatfish and rays.

There were a couple of spearos a few groynes ahead of me at one point... anyone from here?

Vis was up to about 2 metres.


edit: ooops I lost my Omer Mini Laser knife tonight... I can't have clicked it back into the holster properly after I dispatched a fish.... rats, just as well I had a backup knife... will see if they sell a replacement knife on its own without holster.

I used my D06 last night. I was in the water for a couple of hours and it wasn't on full beam all of the time so the battery lasted.

I don't want to worry about the battery dying on me whilst out on the water... not sure if I should get a spare battery or a second D06. Changing the spare battery on the water, resting on my float may be a kerfuffle. Any thoughts?

I have a D06 with 3 x spare batteries, I end up going to the shore for my change of battery. I do have a back up, that is attached to my mask strap to dispatch the fish, which I only turn on to make the final kill. With a night dive I am not too far from the shore anyway.

So, get some spare batteries & a backup torch, whether it is a D06 or a something else. I have a Kinetics Q40 Xenon with mast strap. You can off course get the Q40 eLED. I also have a cheap nasty Chinese LED Lenser knock off, but the magnets have rusted on the switch lever, so I am back to using the Q40. I prefer the magnetic lever as opposed to the twist the lens-housing on(Q40). Also if you haven't got one, invest in a 'Bestdivers' torch holder to slip the torch into so you have hands free.

I also have two of these (although one now needs replacing as I have broken the lens)...

one sits on my flag pole so boat users can spot me and the other clips onto a strap on my weight vest... I use this for the fiddly tasks like reloading the gun or putting the fish in a bag.

I will try out the dive torch holder as suggested... last night I headed down with the gun, would have been useful to have had my lobster hook in the other hand instead of the torch.

I hang it from my flag pole & set it to blink. I have also taped 'Diamond Grade white reflective tape' which is very bright once a torch is shone upon it. This is taped to my Banks Board.

I have SOLAS reflective tape on my flag pole too & just added it to my snorkel this afternoon. After seeing the variety of marine life down there last night, I'll probably go the mainly fishing in darkness route now. I want a decent waterproof GPS watch, it's a pain checking my smartphone app on the float.

A very calm morning at Southbourne today. Sea is like a mirror. Vis at groyne 51 looks to be about 1m, so probably 1-2metres+ further out from the shore.

Got to chesil beach last night to be met by 12000 anglers on the beach and a huge surging swell!! gutted. Ended up in the crappy chesil cove for 4m vis a bass and a mullet.

Unfortunately snapped my carbon blade!!!! Just found out my blades are out of warranty. Now that's twice ive snapped the leader fins carbon range .

I have one omer ice blade (that joe kindly donated) and one hard carbon alga camo leader fins blade.

Question: does anyone have a spare single omer ice or leader fin carbon blade I could buy?

I'm sure there will be some Ice blades out there as I've known guys snap them. I think Cesar may have snapped one or two in the past.

The water looks quite stirred up at Southbourne. I can't see a big improvement happening over the next few days what with the 14mph+ easterly winds forecast. Itching to get in again.

Quick 4 hour dip last night with a 3 mile swim up a flooded muddy river vis 0-2 m at best dropping to 0-0.5m.

Alan and I had plenty of scallops, lobsters, red mullet, grey mullet, bass and flounder.

My best two captures:
A bass dead on 8lb and I dead chuffed with my biggest PB flounder of 3lb 3oz!! well happy with that.

Nice haul.

Just been for a walk along the beach at Southbourne. Very calm out there this evening, minimal swell. Vis looks about 0.5 to 0.75m at groyne 51 so perhaps better further out.

Just received a dive report from Ross gilifilan. Looks like him and Kev Daly have been diving chesil cove over the weekend. They came back with a couple off bass each a nice 12lb pollack and a nice encounter with a porbeagle shark. Sounds like the shark bumped into him before he poked the shark with his spear tip causing it to disappear into the gloom.

Viz aint bad in Cove and along chesil 4 ish metres and plenty of life just leave the big ray alone if you see him , he is as big as me
