Hey all little glimmer of hope for you all for the weekend... Sea is flat and vis is improving for sure in fact may be diveable already.. Bit patchy in places but some of the usual Portland sheltered spots look do-able. I have a new back up gun courtesy of the boys at Picasso UK (hugely helpful and great to deal with) so will give a proper vis report after testing!
First dive of the year and it was mighty cold
Went to a local spot,Matt, joe and I and been watching for past few days as vis looked good there but that wasn't to be. 2m vis at best of times other than that very milky.
Still it didn't disappoint me after being in the water for less that 10 mins I spoted a large tail fin out of the corner of my eye. I turned around slowly and to my amazement saw a very large plaice lying on the sandy bed. Straight in the head not that flat fish are hard to shoot and that was that on the stringer.
Swam around for a while longer but didn't see a thing, weighed the plaice and it was 3.8 pounds. Well chuffed

Yep cracking fish mate, although I still reckon you stepped on it and so shouldn't count. My dive panned out much as above really, first dive of the year and a bit of a shakedown for me and my gear. I learnt a lot actually, don't leave the wetsuit in the shed until ten mins before you want it - BRRRRRR! This also apparently makes wetsuits bulkier round the middle, must expand the air bubbles in the neoprene or something as mine looked suspiciously mure lumpy round there than before christmas... I just can't figure out why! 
As for the dive, cold cold and cold, Matts d3 said 11 but it certainly felt well well below that and all were shivering well by the time we got out... Mmmm and before we got in! We got in and spread out a bit, Ben had a large Plaice before we were even properly in the water which was nice for him and we weren't in the least bit jealous! Swam around to find the vis drop a lot over the reef but the sand being mostly 'fishable' so cracked on with some flattie hunting, the new gun I got from Picasso UK was spot on and surprised me by being deadly accurate first shot.. (Not that I expected anything other than accurate but I normally miss a shot ot two while I get used to a new gun) it surprised the flounder that was cruising past as well! Me and the new Picasso tooktwo reasonable Flounders in the end, just right for lunch tomorrow, saw one tiny plaice and one other small flounder so left those. All in all a nice dive but too cold! Glad to get in though an brush the cobwebs away! If anyone is braving it over the weekend I imagine vis will only improve but wrap up warm and dive safe!

Well done mate, nice to break a new gun in with a fish on the first shot hopefull to get in and have a look later, thanks for the tip but how did Ben attach a fork to his fins!!!!!!
hopefull to get in and have a look later, thanks for the tip but how did Ben attach a fork to his fins!!!!!!Yeah in for about an hour and a half and I was certainly well chilled by that point, would consider another dip today now I am almost warm again but apparently I have to do other things! Might attempt a day dive at some point in the next week or two and look for some scallops etc. Good luck to those of you getting in today!

We're jumping in tonight, hopefully at one of my fav sheltered spots, but I'm not overly convinced that it will be fishable. I'm hoping for a big silver for us tonight as I missed a nice 6lber 2 weeks ago at a really crap spot.
Fairplay on the plaice; a bloody good size for anytime of the year. But u really should have 'portland posed' it!.
Will report back on the dive.

Yeah we're gonna have to cover some water and I'm refusing to blank, pretty confident we will do okay after the last encounter and the that got away!
Well..we got to the intended spot and it was grey dishwasher zero vis; "not again".
Went to Weymouth bay; same grey water, 99% of harbour spots had vis less than 1m. The docks had 2m but out of bounds and I didn't fancy being shot.
Ended up at a spot I really do not like with no real night dive ground to cover. So Alan and I reluctantly suited up and jumped in. Plenty of takeable flounder over sand for us, but we left them. We played with a 3lb wrasse in 3ft of water over a reef, seen loads of pollack and the usual obligatory smelt.
We swam just over a mile covering ground that I knew was unsuitable for night diving and silver fish. Decided to swim back to the sandy bay and pick of a better flatboy....Alan couldn't be arsed with flounder; he had bass on his mind. ..I was so bored that I stabbed a flounder of about 1. 5lb just so I didn't blank; I left the others for the rod and liners.
There were about 60 mackerel bodies flapping around on the sand in the tide; but nit wven a crab had homed in on them.
Numb toes and trigger finger, peeing non stop like I was incontinent and one of my testis kept popping back inside my body with every other fin stroke. Pleasant dive.

Lol! Still good to get in and keep the cobwebs at bay! The extremes you will go to to keep your nuts warm!
