I have both the cressi and a picasso suit, the picasso suit IMO is by far the warmest.
I purchased 9mm socks. ..but no foot pockets on the market would fit, so Nobby made use of them.

5mm is Ok for winter provided you keep swimming. If you are a skinny git like me you will get cold if you spend lots of time at one spot especially if you do long dives and spend long periods on the surface doing nothing betwen them.
I use a 6mm custom made Elios all year round. It can get a bit warm on hot summer days but I just undo the beaver tail and pull the jacket open now and then to get a nice cooling flush of water (helps flush out the pee too!)

As a cheap Scotsman I'm too tight to pay for a camouflaged proper spearo wetsuit. I still just wear my 3-4mm winter hooded surf wetsuit with a shortie underneath.
Works absolutely fine. No flushing. I can't say I've ever felt that camo makes much of a difference vs when I go out with mates. Anyone here think there was change if they went from a plain to a camo suit?

Personally I think camo is just a gimmick. If anything a brightly coloured suit will attract curious fish if you keep yourself steady.
Its all about the neoprene,,,you want warmth and flexibility and the open cell picasso suits fullfil both these requirements.

Great dive off the boat today with a buddy which made a nice change and felt safer too. First drop had a Mackerel come in which I missed. Bit further on a bigger shape comes in, turns, 3 pound mullet on. 3 Bass swim under me and I drop down - they all come back but are on the small side so I just watch and they soon leave. Next dive I turn my head and a submarine of a Bass is right by me inside my gun length, I try to very slowly reposition but it melts into the gloom. Lovely morning out, buddy scores with a Bass also. Makes all the effort worth it - bit rough on the way back though the wind has picked up a lot today. Visibility was just right for me maybe 4-5 metres.

Vis was 3-4 m
The sea was brimmed full of large mullet to six pounds in huge shoals; had to move them with my speargun to get to the bass.
Managed a few nice bass to 4.5lb nothing big for me as Alan took all the donkey bass and left me the stunted ones

The almost 3 mile walk after the 3 mile swim was lovely

Has anyone got any vis reports for Christchurch to Poole area? Looking at going for a dip this eve.
Went in for a dip night before last, first night dive for me. Saw and missed a couple of mullet around the 5/6lb mark. Ended up with a 3lb ish one. Lots of little flatfish seen.

Haven't been in this week, but from the shore it's still looking low vis near Southbourne. It may be better over low tide and when you dive down it may improve compared to the surface.
If you get in can you let us know... I have a new wetsuit coming soon and will go in even if its looking bad down here!

No Wessex thread for a couple of years,I think everybody is too busy to organise those team dives.
I admit I missed them too,it was a good way to meet other spearos and learn more about this sport.
I am also v busy myself but hoping to do some dives next week.I ll send you a PM when I am able to go

There has been some talks about wetsuit thickness lately:
I use 7mm whole year around ,obviously I carry more lead and that is a disadvantage but I don't like feeling cold.I admit that from july til october a 5mm open cell is sufficient.
If you are cold in the water you won't enjoy.
