Am a new member, but find all this quite absurd. If someone can't post pictures of their catch, what's the point? Often dip in to some of the other UK threads and have to say this guy often posts viz reports, good spots for new guys, and helpful advice.

I get that some people may think the catches are too big, but who knows what the family situation is? Maybe he has to do this so his family can eat? OK it's an extreme, but perfectly reasonable.

It would be a real shame for you guys to censor the posts, if honestly be disappointed with the stand adopted.

I get that you are trying to keep everyone happy, but honestly think it's a step too far.

No existing post have been removed and all I have asked is future posts to respect what I have requested.

I think people get that Stephan, but it's just a sad state of affairs.

I understand you probably get a lot of messages etc, but personally, I don't see the problem. If you don't agree with the whole night fishing thing, just ignore it?

I know you are trying to keep both sides of the fence happy, and it must be hard etc, but still, I get both sides of the argument and it may have been better approached.

Do tell me how it was better approached. I privately sent a message to the person causing offence who instead of talking to me posted publicly saying "tree huggers" which indicated no desire to discuss and work it out but publicly decide to disparage what I say without discussion. A number of other folks decide to chime in with other posts I've now removed which all in all leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. If people wanted to discuss and resolve it it should have been done privately with me and not in such a manner.

I just think instead of saying no more of x, you could of asked for another side of the story.

Like I said, it must be hard keeping the peace; but to put an outright ban just seems over the top.

Not trying to stir up any trouble either way, but to me it seems like you are hitting a nut with a sledge. I get others may not feel the same, but maybe ask others to air their opinion? After all, you are only hearing one side through PMs etc (I guess not many email you singing his praises!).

PS Maybe you did this already - in which case fair play. I'm not sure from what I've read so far.

This is a real shame. I confess that I don’t understand the objections to Spearolee’s posts.

Night spearfishing? I fish both during the day and at night too, and catch about the same amount of fish. Definitely more lobster, cuttlefish and sole at night. Maybe a few more silvers too, but as Scrumpy has already pointed out, I certainly don’t find it an easy way to fill a stringer with monster bass.

Too many fish? Last year commercial fishermen landed 4,123 tonnes of bass, and recreational anglers around 1,500 tonnes. In this context Lee’s catches are so small as to be irrelevant. And let's be honest – I don’t post photos of large hauls of 6lb+ bass not out of sensitivity for fish stocks but because I can’t catch them. Any fish over 5lb is a big deal for me, and I guess the same is true for many others on this forum.

However, Lee’s posts and photos have made an impact on me. I was frustrated to see his catches of huge fish while I came away empty handed from dive after dive. But it showed me what it was possible to achieve and encouraged me to put in the effort – both in the water and in researching forum posts by Spearolee, Foxfish, Eric Aqua, Old Man Dave and many others. Spearfishing is an important part of my life, and slowly my catches are improving. This is thanks to people like Lee taking the time to share their hard earned knowledge (as well as photos of their hard earned fish), for which I’m extremely grateful.

I think it very sad if successful spearos who are generous with their advice are driven away from the forum and the rest of us, particularly those who are starting out, are not able to benefit from the inspiration and information that they provide.

Well said bobandsausage. I was also inspired by Lee's captures and stories. I also spear day and night and have caught about the same, I have had more lobster at night.
I liked reading the stories and also picked up hints, tips and vis reports. It's interesting that this is an international forum and different countries have different laws. Whilst Ireland might have a 2 bass limit we do not. While it might seem wrong to someone in Ireland to spear more than 2 bass, does that mean that we should not post pictures of catches of more than 2 bass?
Where do you draw the line at upsetting people?
Only the other day I was talking to a spears that told me camouflage patterns were banned in his country, would that mean you would ban pictures of camouflage wetsuits because some people find it offensive and an unfair advantage?
Spearolee has been one of the most active posters on here and I feel it would be a shame to muzzle him.

Obviously a lot of people have been complaining about these posts in private, it's pretty weak that not a single one has come out to defend Stephan or put their point across...

I personally don't love seeing big hauls of 7+ fish - I'm not sure why, it's completely hypocritical as we're all spearos that shoot fish - at least I'm not ashamed to say it though. For new people or casual observers, I think it can give the wrong impression of our sport and personally, I have wondered a few times why anyone needs quite that many fish.

Saying that, I haven't complained about it, I think Lee is the single most important poster in the UK forums which lets face it, are becoming a pretty dead when it comes to catch reports. He's inspired a hell of a lot of people and obviously works damn hard for his catches and is incredibly talented.

Maybe a better option would be to ask ALL members to limit the number of fish in pictures to say, 5 fish per post. That would be a nice simple solution.

Thanks Broseidon - to be clear I am asking everyone to do same. We will issue a specific guideline on this shortly to avoid confusion.

His account is not banned or deactivated. Yes he received a formal warning around one of his posts but the level of points he has does not instate any posting privilege penalties.

I recently got a bit of hassle because I posted a pic of 26 lobster 2 of us caught. It's actually deterred me from posting any more pics at all tbh but the guidelines should apply to lobster as well?

The guideline will apply to all catches, regardless of species.

I've shot 5 in the day before - does that count? Saying that I find day spearing easier [emoji6]

Is that 5 per person? That would be a good day or night for me but what if there are three spearos out.
