No wonder no one posts on here any longer.

It appears, you average boyo fisherman has found spearfishing, and feel they have to post pics of everything they catch to burnish their already heavily inflated ego.
To be fair, this has been happening for years, Cisco Kid etc...

On the reverse, there is only so much you can discuss, relating to this pastime. If you take away or limit the 'boyo's' ability to post pics, then we are left with the repetitive topics currently seen.

Difficult one Mr Wheelan, but think you have to admit, the forums struggling. Hobson's choice.

Finally able to login I'm guessing there has been technical issues.

It's been great to hear everybody's thoughts on the subject, hence making it public rather than by PM.

I was somewhat shocked to receive such a PM...as no laws, byelaws, terms or conditions had been broken, niether have I been rude or aggressive with my content of posts.

I was very surprised to hear that pictures of speared fish on this forum would upset people.

The post that stephan has refered to stated that it was two speoros over a 6 hour dive covering miles of coastline; leaving the fish under 4lb...I must also add that it was a 400 mile round trip for us!! So yes to put thus in context 2 double figure bass and a good handful of fish 4-7lb is surely a 'good' enjoyable evening of spearfishing.

Yes I do love having my ego polished ......again surely not an offence?
I have contributed so much to this forum over the years and have openly shared some very hard earned tips and advice from my underwater experiences.

Ironically, luck would have it that I've been blessed with the opportunity to day dive on a regular basis and work alongside a fantastic and reputable company, hence my recent pics have been of day captures.

My intentions never have been and never will be to antagonise or single out any other forum members....if I wanted to do that I would post my spear shot dead fish puctures on a rod and line forum, sit back and await the well deserved backlash!!
But not on here???

Anyhow....all said and done...it has been great reading.

So am I cortect in thinking that I am allowed to post a pic of 5 fish of good size shot day or night without fear of being reprimanded?

I am fully open to any constructive crtitism. ...everyone has their own views and thus there are going to be a few, or 'more' in some instances that have differing views and opinions. Robbo66 I completely respect your constructive comments.

What I personally do not accept is the lynch mob mentallity....I.e...we don't like your pics. With no 'logical' reason...then to respond to such empty and silly complaints. .....

Thus...this 'open' debate.

Thing is .. I doubt if any regular posting member doubts your ability or your dedication but there is a bigger picture if you consider that there are hundreds if not thousands of non posting visitors who view the forum.
Then you have to consider (& hopefully try to understand) that many spearos are simply contented with one fish a dive!
Most of all, please consider that if staff members receive mutable complaints about 'whatever' it would be a poor situation if we did not at least try to sort out the problem!
We are trying our hardest to keep the forum running smoothly, there are no light hearted decisions being made behind the scenes but problems are discussed & dealt with as best we can.
We certainly don't want to loose any members, in fact the exact opposite!

I completely get it, but people complaining doesn't mean that they are right? It just simply means 'they complain'. Bit as moderators etc....I understand that you cannot please everyone. No hard feelings Mart ...

may I ask why you are nicknamed the 'silver smoker'??

Because I use to dive in a Silver over suit, I used a survival blanket to make the over suit.
In my day I was a successful spoero & believed my silver camo enabled me to harvest plenty of bass .. 'smoke' was just slang for killing!

Although i understand the staff need to balance the various views on such topics and apparently there have been some complaints, i just don't understand the 5 fish picture guideline. it seems like a knee-jerk reaction.
May I ask that the staff re-consider this? leave it with the forumites to decide what they feel is ok to post and then allow some good healthy debate and discussion to follow - what the forums are for?

As I said earlier, it's good to see catches, there's only so much you can discuss relating to wishbones and viz.
The catches and the trip reports make the threads IMO. I wasn't one of those who complained about your posts, as there have been far worse.
The mullet basher of Les Saveurs, or the Cisco kid who admitted to practicing on small pollack for example.
We were facing a ban in my area, and they continued to post haul loads of small fish, knowing that the authorities in our area were aware of the site. Didn't help. It may impress the newbies, but to the rest it looks vacuous.
Our bunch don't post on here any longer, neither do many more. Topics have been done to death, and we all move on in reality.
It's all down to time in the water. Those with more time, will catch more fish, simple. It's a pretty basic hobby.

@Jonny250 - where is the line drawn? 5 for some people is too low, for some it is too much. It doesn't matter what the number is someone somewhere will disagree with it one way or another. The challenge I have is when we get lots of complaints on the forums and off, and also when I talk to members who have left the forums it becomes obvious that the biggest reason given is the perception that some images posted were causing offence and giving the wrong impression.

It is a no-win situation for me and the forum staff - we are damned if we do and damed if we don't. Ultimately i'm trying to set a guideline that can be enforced (rightly or wrongly) so everyone knows where the boundary is.

Seems as I now rarely dive at night, most of my catches and pics will be daytime ones.

So if the said offended individuals would express their thoughts on what wouldn't offend them, that would be great.
I can only asume that my last pics if a 10lb bass and mullet from daylight didn't offend?

Unfortunately most people don't want to get into public arguments over these sorts of things. I also would point out that probably only 5% of the number of people who visit the forums actually post - that is the nature of forums these days.

Stephan, I don't envy you. It's impossible to please everybody. I'm glad we've had this debate.

Absolutely ban members posting pics of undersized fish, prohibited species, threatning, rude......generally bringing our much loved pastime into disrepute.

Over my 40 years I've been an avid 'fish and water person' kayaks. ..rods...scuba....freedive...surf..carp...course..sea...etc...and have joined appropriate forums for my chosen pursuit. I have always taken pride in what I do abd thus strive to be as good as I can be at any given hobby.

So as you can imagine I've had my fair share of 'haters' when I've succeeded in such pursuits......
Unfortunately that's the nature of the beast, certain fractions and clubs form and think only they know best and dislike others thst may do it different or not conform.

Had a day off yesterday, so decided to hit chesil beach over low tide (neaps) in search of a new wreck thst I haven't speared before.

To my suprise I landed directly on top of the wreck on my 4th dive and it was only in 12-14m of water (I was told 16-18m).

Well...the triggers are in..and in large numbers. Also plenty of lobsters. Didn't see any bream?

Vis was pretty good, but patchy 4m mostly when on the bottom, but very green...working just above the wreck was up to 6m.

Went home with triggerfish, pollack and lobsters.
