Hello Dorset,
Today me and two friends of main couldn't go west from Kimmeridge because of military firing.
We went east by two boats. First time in this year. It was a trial of our vessels.
There was a perfect visibility along the coast from Swanage to Kimmeridge. 6 to 12 meters in places. Even in Chapman's Poole vis was 8 to 10m! Water is cold - 12 to 13 degrees only! I have seen only one 60-70cm Bass but it was faster then me. And some small Pollacks and Wrasse. My friends managed to take decent flounder, couple of Pollacks and one lobster. I went home empty handed.

Pointandhope, can you pls pm me any good spots around purbecks for shore diving? We went 2 weeks ago to Lulworth cove and only saw wrasses and spider crabs. Viz was good 5-6m though

For anyone wanting to join us in Guernsey for the 4th Annual DeeperBlue Meet, I have a spare space in my car. Jen (my fiancee) cant make it this year but I have already paid for her ticket.
I will be leaving Poole on Wed 29th morning and returning on Monday 3rd August, leaving Guernsey in the afternoon. If anyone wants to join me, let me know and I can change the name on the ticket and pick you up en-route from Plymouth or meet you at Poole.
You'll have to organise your own camping, but I can help with lifts to and from the dive sites for the comps on Sat and Sun.

Any of you handsome chaps able to give me a possible viz report for purbeck this week? Has the wind stirred things up? Desperate to get in Saturday, so any chance of viz will be exploited.

I went down there (Lulworth to Weymouth) last weekend and viz from the shore looked 1m max. Saw someone diving right next to the durdle door I wonder what he saw there

Took a dip on a not so secret purbeck bay yesterday am. Viz was 5m ish and nice and warm. There were literally a gazillion small sandeels and smelts as there was on my last trip, only difference was zero bass. Nothing, zip, nada, zilch. After 2 hrs dodging jellyfish I made a move to an exposed spot that was new to me. I'd wanted to give this a go for a while. There was a little too much swell really, but gave it 1.5hrs, viz was actually a little better here. Beautiful ground of huge rocks topped with string weed, with gullies and fissures upto 30ft deep. All surrounded by sand and gravel. Anyone interested in lure fishing for wrasse then this is the place, some huge daddies up to 7 or 8lb easy. Anyway I did find some bass all holed up in one cove, a nice shoal plus some bits and pieces from 2-6lbs I guess. Absolutely kicking myself after missing three in great style. Doh! Fudge it! Only one was a real chance to be honest, the other two were half chances right on the edge of viz and range, when I reviewed the camera footage the bass that I thought was a sitter was in frame for maybe a second. The swell was getting a bit much so left a little dejected but hopeful for next time. Have been thinking of a long gun for the days of better viz, any views? Seem to have a few chances at bass as they skirt me at around 4m or a touch more. Got a 75 now and it's been pretty useful and has shot like poison up to now. Did feel a bit under gunned yesterday. Been looking along the lines of 95-100.

I am going to check Old Harry Rocks this evening, finning from Studland South Beach. Hard work! If I had a buddy I would take a small inflatable boat with 8HP outboard and sail from Sawanage Bay - much easier. On my own its not possible to load the boat onto the car's roof.
Anyone interested to join me? My mobile: 07783931183

Apologies, posted twice as didn't realise there was Dorset thread too. I should also add that I could rustle up a small dinghy and 10 horse out of Weymouth harbour of needs be.......

Hi all.
I'm probably picking my spearing gear up from Weymouth on Saturday. (Long story). Anyone willing to share any easy entry local spots so I don't have a wasted trip from Manchester. I'll return the favour with some top spots in North Wales if you visit. Nothing too exciting needed but would love to get in the water.

cheers

Patrick

Yestearday me and my friend Hubert decided to go for night session. Drove to Lulworth Cove with small inflatable boat on the roof of my car and 8HP outboard in the boot. We were late. At Mupe Rocks anchored at 01:00 - almost 2 hours after High Water. It was my fault but Hubert seemed happy enough and did not make any claims about that.
Viz around was perfect - 7 to 12m!!! In first 20 mins I got 2 Sea Bass and Hubert got 1. There were much more around but soon they disappeared. Next 2,5 hrs we have seen nothing worth to spear. Sailed back to LC and tried to find some flatties. Unfortunately viz in the cove was very poor - 2m only! And the flatties were very small. No decent lobsters spotted this time. I think there are too many pot traps along the cliffs.

Went to an exposed purbeck mark yesterday am. Water clarity was excellent over high water, but a real absence of any life. Tide started to rip on the ebb and brought about a plankton bloom, so viz went to 2-4m, but everything came to life. A hoard of bait arrived to feed to feed on the plankton, and one or two bass showed up. Left with 2 bass and 2 pollock, nothing picture worthy but a meal for the family though. Got out after 2 hrs as the tide was getting too much. Haven't seen a single mullet or flattie in 4 trips. Some shocking shooting too, I think 11 shots for 4 fish!

Anybody in the swanage to portland area able to comment on the general sea state and viz please. Weather set ok for fri and sat, so may pop down then, if the sea isn't dishwater colour today I'm hoping another day or two should be good. ATB.

Hoping to go on Sun. Anyone needs a buddy?

Quick dip on an east purbeck mark yesterday eve. Viz was milky but ok at 2-4m. Plenty of action straight away with a school of 1-3lb ish bass, then a few pollock. Spent the next 45 mins dodging a f***ing seal, it would not leave me alone and hence everything went to ground. Jumped out for a while and he soon went. Back to it and it was an all out pollock fest. Enjoyable 2 hrs and came with 5 pollock and 1 bass. Nice to see so much life about, but no mullet again.
