Any viz possible for tomorrow?
Yes buddy, been down to that area today and looks fishable, maybe 3m or a touch more.
NEWS FLASH: Dorset thread is officially dead, only 4 pages of posts, and it's September next week!
I think the whole forum is in decline. Such a shame as it used to be an amazing, vibrant community.
I think the 'Like" button is partly to blame - it's taken people out of the mind set of actually replying to posts, they can just hit "Like" and move on. Who wants to take the time to actually bother to write up a dive report and upload pictures when no-one even replies?
There has also been bad user management - mods allowed the top posters who actually wrote up reports and posted pictures to be hounded off the forum by trolls. One person in particular made DeeperBlue a dirty word amongst a lot of spearos, especially anyone to do with BSA.
The last two summers can't have helped as the spearing hasn't been good - I'd guess there are probably less people going out diving - I might be wrong.
I'd also say that most people on this forum nowadays aren't interested in community - they just want viz reports or want to know where to find fish. I haven't posted in ages but bothered to write a short report on Friday as two people were asking for viz reports on the North Wales thread - not a single reply or thanks - totally as expected. Don't think I'll bother to post again.
I know that feeling well but I try to ignore it because sometimes those days work out ok in the end - although sometimes they don't! I believe it's called pessimismHere's a question - to put it in context, I've been spear-fishing now for 3-4years I reckon so know reasonably well what I'm doing (maybe).
It wasn't feeling very "fishy" yesterday. No bait fish, little pollock or wrasse around. As soon as I get in and the water's like that I do tend to start feeling that there aint really going to be much luck vs the bass and mullet etc. Does everyone else feel that way? I definitely associate more active general sea life with potential success.

Yes, for sure it is a lot more interesting when there are a lot of fish around, even if they are small wrasse & small pollock. Even more interesting when the fish are a bit bigger and/or there are sandeels around - a food source for several fishes.
Should I hit like?
Well then Bro, what could be the answer, other than a damn good kick in the guts? Just a couple of years ago the Dorset thread was alive, full of banter and reports, and a little further back you had the wessex club, which was a community in its own right.
I'm newish to the sport, and would feel at a disadvantage without having the dorset archives to peruse. For that reason I post about every trip I have and feel a duty to do so. I never give away place names, just a general idea on the type of ground I have visited.
Perhaps it's better that nothing much is going on a public forum.
Been following the forum for about 18 months since taking up the sport. Didn't post as I didn't feel I had much expertise to share yet. But I've certainly found it useful as a newbie.
I'd be happy to start posting viz +\- fish reports after my trips. Maybe we can resuscitate the forum before it's too late.
Sadly we can't please everyone - we took a view that night fishing was not allowed and that annoyed a small group on here. They have now gone off to Facebook - they do not represent everyone. We look after a community that spans 200,000 individuals users every month (on the whole site) from across the globe and we can't make decisions that will keep everyone happy. I wish we could but after 16 years of the forums i've learnt we can't.The problem was that every time someone posted something a minority slated them be it for night spearfishing, size of fish, quantity of fish or anything they could. The mods then asked them not to post about these things and the majority of the community did not like that so left and set up Facebook groups like Dorset spearfishing and spearfishing without the aid of daylight. These pages are very active and the fact that this thread has just four pages is a reflection of the fact that the mods did not support those members of Deeper Blue.
