The viz on the Purbecks was dire today - I could just about see the end of my gun (and even worse in Poole harbour, if anyone's interested - I could just about see my hand holding my gun!).

To top it off, I split my 2mm undervest from one shoulder right across to the other - anyone got any top tips on repairing a thin vest like that?

Gaz, Put clear tape as well as you can along the inside and then glue it generously with [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mcnett-Black-Witch/dp/B000SCJQYQ"]black witch neoprene repair[/ame]. Once dry, pull the tape off, turn inside out and see if it warrants a smooth little line across the inside too.

Cheers mate,

It just so happens that I bought some of that black witch stuff a few weeks ago from O3. I like the tape idea; sounds a lot simpler than another method that has been suggested to me. Would you also recommend maybe trimming a thin section from the bottom of the vest and using that as backing for the tear? Or will the black witch do the job on its own?

All the best,

Gaz

Black witch should do the job on its own but if you are after a foolproof job then a small overlay strip would obviously add strength. Make sure it goes on the opposite side to minimise chaffing.

Black witch is rubiish imo, Doest last very long it will hold it together for some time then just peel off. I would use a 2 part glue, i use a bostik glue ( cant rember exact name sorry) Like you said use some strips to go over the tears, If its a elios undervest i would use the same meterial as the strips. Or just get a new one!

Here we go!!! :)

Thanks spearheads. Would that be Bostik 2402 (or something like that)?

Yes it is Elios, and yes another has been ordered (although I've ordered it from Dave at Spearo, so no telling when it will turn up :))

This is just a repair to keep me going until the new one arrives - I've become rather dependent on my undervest, and treat it a bit like a comfort blanket. I don't like to be in the water without it at this time of the year.

Thanks for the advice everyone (although I may just end up putting it into O3 for repair, depending on how much they quote me, and how quickly they can get it back to me).

Gaz.

Matt, I know you said IMO but not sure that it fall's in the rubbish category so firmly. I and many others I know including mates repairing hire suits in Newquay for years are pleased with the results. The Alder one is also good.
Interesting feedback on MSW....

Hi Gents, I have rigged up a dirty piece of string to the satellite so I have 5 min web access!

Great responsive for Vobster, that's def a go'er as soon as I can work out the dates I am free. There will be a £25'ish fee to cover and extra instructor as there are quite a few persons so far and I cant be all over the lake.. Plan so far is dive saturday (Not sure which) till cold, camp, bbq, drink, talk fish. Dive sunday till cold and then go home. Podge has a camp site in mind so just remember enough beer and food. Might have the deeper guys Saturday and the <10m guys on Sunday, so I don't have to do too much with a thick head.. Your thoughts please?

Guernsey is a go too as soon as I have dates and so is Exeter ( You know who you are! )

Its lovely up here and the seals and killer whales are catching BIG cod.. Shame I cant get in.

B. :)

Nice one Bryn, I reckon it’ll be the same camp site as last time if that’ll be ok?
As soon as you give me a date I’ll book up a heap of spaces.
Looking forward to it mate.:friday:friday:friday
