Extreme Dolfinism

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
'In next video You will find Ron explaining the physics, underwater drag, technology behind this propulsion as well as history of Dol-Fins, a 20 years of history!'
Like Like Like Can I get a copy of the sound even if the video is still being edited? Just kidding but it's great stuff.

Bill but You know them guys who ruined my sound..

Ron - Just wondering if you have tried just a thin carbon fiber foil say 1/4"-3/16" thick, also would a little flex in the foil be bad or good. Also had idea of a reinforced wetsuit to increase surface tension of the swimmer (I equate this to being faster ,just as a stiffer hull gives a boat a much higher speed). May be part of the missing information that researchers are looking for to explain why dolphins are so fast. Any way just something to ponder, though I would bounce it off you because you seem to think of little else.

I have not been making my foils from carbon fiber, but the material used really does not matter so much with foils. The important thing is the angle control. Anyway, I'm sure carbon fiber would perform fine as a material of construction, and I'm sure a little flex could be good if it is done right.

I like the idea for the wetsuit. I'm very much interested in finding ways to lower drag. So far, effective solutions have been elusive. Please let us know if you have any success in this area.

Ron

Looks need!

Nostres if you can I would like to see some pool use video, with a few stable complete monofin cycles filmed from the side so I can see and study the dynamic of it.

Secondarily I don't think I can use this in a lane where other recreational swimmers are without them and the staff fearing decapitation.

More details are very welcome, but I must say I cannot afford one at the moment.

Ron, nice job man, I'm starting to believe this fin will start to slowly break through this year, but for now we're still in the early adopter phase, I feel.

That would be nice but how do I do that without the fin?:)

This was Ron's picture I attached, I should have mention that. My bad

X-20 number one is on it's way to me in a few weeks, happy owner #1.

Once I receive it I will dive the crap out of it and let you all know my thoughts.

:inlove

I will post photos and video.

Ok, I now put a diveweight on the F5 button and swallow pills to stay awake anticipating your review and videos! :D

Kars,

I used the X18 prototype, and it is very similar to the Orca, taking about 10% more strokes to cover the same distance, and obviously can't be made buoyant like the Orca. It does actually have one advantage over the Orca, in that the shoes give you slightly more control over the fin.

Having logged 1,000+ dives with the Orca, I would actually say among the many benefits the #1 benefit for me is that I can use it in winter (5-8C water) with thick 5mm socks, with warm feet, no tendonitis and full blood circulation in my feet. And as well, hyperfin performance with no buoyancy change at depth.

Eric and I will be having head to head races to the bottom. Well, not literally head to head, that would lead us nowhere!

:duh

Should be an interesting comparison. Ron's tweaked the X20 so it's actually only a 9.657% difference in strokes. :D

We'll find out!

I'm way jumping the gun, but looking at Nostres's pic, there appears to be plenty of room forward and underneath the shoes for a flotation addition that would be out of the slip stream and nearly dragless. Might make it as near neutral as the Orca.

And remember guys this time we have 3 sizes (widths) to choose from:

M=24 3/4 inches (63cm)
L=29 3/4 inches (75.5cm)
XL=34 3/4 inches (88cm)

plus 6" "foldable fin tip extensions deployed from each end of the center foil" for easy air travel

I heard 9.653%

I have amazing shotgun microphone that records only what You point at. Unfortunately I bought it right after this trip, too many waves and wind noise over Ron's voice.

To make long story short - Ron says it's good fin:) You should buy it

I have the X20 in hand. :friday

Looks beautiful, will send photos shortly.

Chris,

My friends keep reporting that the sound is OK. If You want to just feel "Aloha spirit" then first and last 30seconds is all You need to see.

But if You'd like to hear what Ron says, which I think is very interesting You can try good headphones. Or, if You have speakers with subwoofer try lowering TREBLE (noise) and increase BASE (male voice) for best results

Or edit the audio with a program like Cool Edit pro 2.1, You can delete the noise in great detail, and increase the volume, and equalize the sound to your delight.

You'll be amazed how much better it will sound.
