Extreme Dolfinism

OK, my baby arrived safely. I am not mad at Laminar, just happy for him as I am happy for myself:friday

This thing is so hot I just enjoy staring at it.
Sharing few pictures below starting with surprisingly small and lightweight box. I am used to receiving huge packages when my monofins arrived, this one is sure gonna be easy to travel with (next month, yeah!)

Assembly is piece of cake, only four screws and Ron gives detailed instructions on how to treat this Ferrari. Can't wait to swim the lake with it, I'll do my best sharing my aqua adventures, mostly via videos when my GoPro arrives

For now just a few images of how well this thing is designed, all logos are not painted but laser engraved in aluminum.

Slammed at work this week, won't get into the ocean until this weekend....

Grrrr.....

All right, no more procrastination, quit stalling.

Nostres, its been 24 hours. We want a report, video, commentary.

You are holding out on us and I don't care if there is still ice covering Lake Michigan.

Ice on Lake Michigan is long gone as we skipped spring this year and went straight to the summer. I don't have GoPro at the moment, besides I'll post video only when I am fairly good with THE fin:)

What else do You want to hear Connor? I think all important facts were told here

Gear Review: The DOL-Fin Orca | DeeperBlue.com

Yes, it's about ORCA fin but if You deduct 10% from performance You have X20. People could buy Dol-Fins based on this review, I went further. I had opportunity to see it in action and meet Ron in person. I also had other reasons to buy it like... well, I just like monofins aka monofin freak. And I was happy to support Ron's project by this early purchase.

I admit I was sceptic before (like many others) but I realized that this isn't some "garage project". Dol-Fins are made by clever engineer using high quality materials and tools, MADE IN USA after 20+ years of research and tests. Until May this technology is available for lower price and IMHO whoever can afford this fin should buy it.

BTW Your fin is on the way to You as we speak so stop whining!:) It should last You many years to come so few days don't make a difference, I don't care who will post first video of X20 (other than Ron's)

But I like to whine! Keeps me busy while I wait for mine.

Somebody, somewhere told me I'm not patient enough. Can't understand why anyone would say that.

who would say such thing:)

ok Mr. Patient, I am on my way the pool for first swim, will share my first impressions. Yep, that's what I do on Friday night

Connor, with that small pack size I am sure it will fit fine on board a 25ft power cruiser? What size shoes did you order ;)

45, bring some booties if your shoe size is smaller. And I'm already thinking about a permanent mount for storage.

Amigos!

I can proudly say that I swam full 50meters with X20 underwater and it was amazing 50 meters. Unfortunately after just two laps the beautiful lifeguard girl was obligated to tell me I need to remove my "device". I was prepared for that hence my quick and quiet entry. Although Dol-Fins are attention magnets, many pools (like the one I went yesterday) does not allow more than 1 lap underwater nor wearing fins.

Back to the swim, I was too excited to count cycles but it was very easy to propel it. It felt very fast for medium power stroke on first lap, surprisingly easy turn and also quite fast 2nd lap without engaging core, just minimal leg movement like in Ron's video. So the fun ended before it even began but it was very promising teaser to what's coming.
Sorry I can't give You more right now but the Lake is warming up fast and GoPro is on the way to me, I promise to share all experience thru video the best I can.

Will full undulation swimming still have a practical function, or will we see leg only swimming in the future? Esthetically I love to see the full undulation technique.

Rotten luck Nostres. Heck of a teaser though, thanks!

I sure hope the same thing doesn't happen to me.

You can pretend to BO, the lifeguard jumps in, and you flip around and with your sharpened hydrofoil decapitate your assailant. :crutch

...many pools (like the one I went yesterday) does not allow more than 1 lap underwater nor wearing fins.

This is why I made my own pool for doing monofin equipment testing. There aren't many public pools that will accommodate freedivers using fins. Thanks for trying though.

FYI: I should have more videos coming out from Hawaii about 6 weeks from now.

Laminar dove his X20 in the ocean this weekend. Preliminary results were very good-- I'll let him post the details.

I would comment that we were brainstorming ways to add buoyancy and improve streamlining, and one thought was that in addition to 5mm socks inside the shoes, putting 7-9mm sock outside the shoes would improve the streamlining of the shoe and add buoyancy at the same time. This would mostly add buoyancy at the surface, which is where it is most needed.

I forget the diver that first used external booties about 40 years ago in S CA but they work great to at least 10C. Never understood why they weren't more popular.
