Can anyone link me to the 'in's and out's' of the speccie hunt rules etc.. cant seem to find them. Just to clarify again if you can,,, say add a 7lb bass, then later add a 10lb bass? or would only the first entery of that particular fish count?

Speccie hunt additional rules:
12. The winner of the speccie hunt competition will be the spearo with the most number of different species of fish entered in the fom competitions during the year [the speccie hunt will allow all of the species that are entered in the fom, whether or not they are entered in the final poll, to count in the speccie hunt].
13. In the case of a draw, both/all winners will get a pat on the back and a 'well done' from us all - or we may run a poll.
14. ONLY the following fish may be counted in the speccie hunt:
Bass, Bream – Black, Bream – White, Bream – Gilthead, Brill, Cod, Dab, Flounder, Grey Mullet - Common thick or thin lip, Grey Mullet - Golden Grey, Gurnard – Red, Gurnard – Tub, Plaice, Pollack, Red Mullet, Sole –Dover, Triggerfish, Turbot. 18 species to try for.
We had a discussion about the number of entries a month or so ago and it was agreed that multiple entries are fine. this actually happened last month and in principle you should let me know which of the entries you want to have counted in the FOM. In practice if you dont tell me then i will make an 'educated' guess...
So, Yes you can enter a 7lb bass and then later the same month you can enter a 10lb bass [yer, right!
] the 10lber would count for the FOM, but either would count for the speccie hunt.
Just a reminder that the minimum size entries for the speccie hunt [this year] are the minium legal fish sizes applicable to your region. so the speccie hunt is more about numbers of species than specimens. If it proves popular then maybe next year we will use minimum specimen sizes too.

Hi,
I love this specimen hunting idea, and will be trying to get as many of the eligible species as I can. I think the idea of minimum sizes is very good and maybe something to consider next year. It sets a target,a minimum standard if u like. The sizes don't need to be massive, just reasonable sized quality fish. So far I have entered a red mullet and a white bream, both of which I think are reasonable quality fish for their species but I have caught several other species which I haven't entered because I feel they could be bigger! eg I caught a couple of small turbot (legal and tasty) but will try and find a bigger one. At the mo,I have entered only two species but I have since caught a few other decent fish and will be entering them this month. Looking at the list of eligible species, I realise that that there is no chance of getting all of them. Eg I have seen Gilthead but never had one, and as for cod, they are caught here very occasionally..........but not by me! Same applies to a couple of the others, but I will have fun getting as many as I can and encourage others to do the same. cheers mike

Ahh, OK, I get what the speccie hunt is all about now.
Yep, I like it - but don't think I'll be around enough this year to get too many species in.
Actually, I don't just like it, I think it's a GREAT idea!

Yes i'm very sorry but the rules do say:
"4. Entries must be posted by 23:59 on the 2ND of the month following the competition."
and as people have started to vote, it wouldnt be fair to add more fish now. If you caught a fish in the last couple of days then please do get it in the June FOM...:

Did you post it in the fom page & did i miss it? i just checked but i dont think so?
the rules require that you post the fom entry in the fom entry thread before the 2nd of the following month. if you caught it on the 28th May then unless i'm missing it, you needed to have posted it on the fom page before the 2nd of June. Sorry but rules is rules...

Right then, after the bream and a pollack this weekend to add to the species comp.
Just finished building a long range gun for them.
Comanche 90 barrel and trigger mech.
Rob Allen 6.5mm spear, I cut in an extra notch.
Geronimo open muzzle
Double wrap of shooting line
X2 16mm bands loaded with x2 dyneema wishbones for silent shooting

Probably heading S Devon way Friday night after a tip off from an old friend when I lived in that neck of the woods.
