FOM/SH Discussion thread for 2013

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Jonny can you just remind me of the specimen hunt rules I thought only your biggest and best fish counted or can you have unlimited entries?

Here is the relevant section Mart:

16. SH Points are awarded as follows:
fish #% = [a X d] + b ['a' multiplied by 'd' then add 'b']
score % = (fish X% + fish Y% + fish Z% + etc) / number of fish of that species entered:
a: % points for fish weight as a percent of the "Specimen Fish Weight"
b: % points for catch report [awarded at the discretion of the DB staff].
d : multiplier: the first fish of a species entered is worth 1 x the above 'fish #%' points; subsequent fish of the same species added to the SH may be counted but will be subject to a multiplier of x 0.7 . These will then be averaged with the first fish score to produce the % score for that specimen.

clear as mud!? :)
so:
The fish need to meet the minimum Speccie hunt sizes [bigger than min landing size].
The first fish of a species has a higher % weighting but after any further qualifying fish can be added at 70% of the weight. [maybe next year this should be a descending scale i.e. 70, 50, 30, 5%]?

i cant see the point in limiting it to one fish of a species as people will most likely take more than one, i.e. bass, plaice so far. The system is intended to discourage people taking small fish 'for points'.

Hi Jonny,
Re de SH rules
Just checking if i've got it right..... the second fish of each species is less valued than the first ie less points?
How many fish of the same species can u enter, ie Can you enter a third or fourth fish of the same species, if so does a mulitiplier apply?
cheers
mike

Mike already asked about this :) March 2nd.

yes mike thats it; the first first is 'weighted' - partly to encourage people to be selective in taking fish - i.e. not shooting the first of a species just to 'get one in' & improving later. However the catch report points should accrue as more fish are entered and i hope that these can be an important part of the comp - good catch report = good score, so second, third fish which are weighted less, can still accrue good points.
enter as many as you want to write up :)
does that make sense...? its probably not the ultimate system but it will be nice to reward good catch reports.

and my reply ^

Heh Jonny, Even after your reply, it seems that I still misunderstood....duhhhhhhhhhhhh!!.......... I too thought only biggest and best of each species counted . I took from your reply that you could enter more fish of the same species, but where I got it wrong is that I still thought that there was no point in doing so, unless a subsequent fish was substantially better than the previous (because you only get 70% of the percentage!). I did wonder why other divers were still entering loads of smaller fish of the same species , but I smuggly thought , those silly buggers, they've obviously got it wrong................but now I know it was me!!!! ............at least I can blame it on creeping senility! :duhAnyhow, it is just for fun isn't it?rofl

lol, sorry about the fish you didnt enter mike. well at least it will be clearer for next season if we want to use a similar format. perhaps i should have included an example with numbers.

Well a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to SPEARO NOBBY for winning the MAY 2013 Fish of the Month competition!!!
What a superb fish and a feast for the family :)
Send me/Mirror your address details Nobby and we will look forward to seeing your trophy photo...
Although the vote was a tie - well done also to JerseyMike for a good size species - Nobby wins as his fish was the first to be entered.

Also well done to the other entries - Lee's Gilty also received a good share of votes :)

I cant beleive its June already - get those entries in...

just for the record, i have spoken with Mark aka cheffy and we have agreed that unfortunately his Record White Bream entry is not eligible - number of posts and newspaper requirements. Sorry Mark, but you still have the British Record and Hall of Fame :)
