Freediving and personality types

Interesting and informative set of 16 descriptions. I took the test thing and am INFJ apparently ('doer-dreamer' I guess). I checked it with all my family and they read it and said it was scarily accurate.
I read all the other 16 descriptions and tried to think of an example of each one from the people I know. Got some of them to do the test and they all matched my guess

Right, better quit my job in IT and find a loin cloth or dog collar...

Thanks, interesting, but again, not surprising. Do you find yourself in a bit of a teaching or mentoring role in IT? I work in science, and we have quite a few people in your 'column 3' - and they tend to drift into these roles later in their careers, as opposed to wanting to go into management.

As an INFJ, remember you could also grow a long white beard, buy a large barrel, and become a philosopher.

Like you I've found the MBTI to be the best descriptor of what people are likely to choose to do given a free choice - which typifies long-term decisions such as careers and hobbies. (It's quite a bad predictor of other behaviours, such as reactions under stress.)

A few more responses, and I'll be able to do something more accurate with the stats.

Hi. I'm myself ENFP to an extreme point.

From my observation, a central point of most freedivers I know is that they talk, talk, talk. I'm also a very talkative person (ask my girlfriend).

I'm always surprised when I meet freedivers out of the water : it's nearly always a verbal fight to talk, talk, talk. A 10 minutes talk on the door of the swimming pool can last two hours.

Now, my girlfriend always do the joke when she meet a talkative person : "oh, you are a freediver ?".

Some crazy explanations I had for that :

- Freedivers are passionate thus like to talk.
- Freediving is hard, so if you are not passionnate, you leave.
- Freedivers have better control of their lung and thus can talk a lot easily. Non-talkative people are in fact often physiologically enclined to not talk because of bad air flow control. (the craziest idea but also my favourite one).
- Talkatives people like freediving because of the silence.
- My sample is to low. There are not more talkative people in freediving than in the whole society.
- Being very talkative, I'm enclined to see talkative people in community I*want to be part of.

Its hard to talk about freediving to people who aren't interested in it, that's another reason freedivers talk to each other about it so much
