Hi folks :)

Anyone know if there are any bad reasons to take Ginseng before a day of freediving, be it for competition or for general toodling about with a camera or speargun?

And related to that, what kind of (if any) supplements do y'all take, and is there any specific correlation to taking (or not taking) vitamin supplements and its effect on u/w performance?

Thanks!

About Ginseng i don´t know much, but i am sure, ginseng won´t harm you.
I personally take ginkgo biloba extract EGb761. It improves the cerebral metablism (effective use of glucose) and protects the CNS against the effects of hypoxia. The ginkgo extracts decreases the the amount of lactic acid in the CNS, for example.
The most positive effect of it is that ginkgo increases the abilities under hypoxia. The urge to breathe comes later and the signs of hypoxia (samba) come delayed (positive or negative?).
Under heavy freediving training free radicals are produced cause of hypoxia. Ginkgo and vitamine E are able to catch them (in the CNS, too!). If you take vitamine E take it with vitamine C, because vitamine C is able to regenerate vitamine E.
For building up haemoglobin and erythrocytes I take iron in combination with folic acid and cyanocobolamine.
