My Camera is the Canon G9 with Canon Housing. a bit bulky and probably not ideal for gun-mount and video, but i personally enjoy the off-gun stills stuff too and the G9 must be one of the better compacts for u/w use - it has RAW format. I have been working on a u/w tripod for the macro stuff... flatties and crabs, snails, etc have to be exactly in focus in macro mode - wich is rather difficult when your moving in the swell and not quite negatively buoyant. backscatter prevents anything beyond about 2ft from being clear when the flash is used (which is always), so it's invariably a macro picture when underwater.
Would love an SLR housing for my 30D...

New guys :friday welcome to our friendly thread!
Talking cameras my beautiful panasonic fz30 has died, only 4 years old but I guess that is quite a long time for me?
I actually got in on Tuesday - went down to foxys hole, stumbled down the beach but that was nothing compared to putting on my suit - my leg you see, is still rather blue & black & sort of yellowy greeny colour but the sea was finally calling.
First issue once in the water & finning out were my new ice fins, they were giving me serous cramp. Well more accurately serious cramp in my left foot!
Then my float was continuously hooking up in the weed, then those bloody fins have a little clip that attachés the blades & they were catching the weed too!! :vangry
Then - I took out my new teak gun that was very under powered & not very well balanced however the water was clear & fish were present!
So did I spear anything? Of course, one bass 3.5lb any photos? Yes one on my phone but I cant seem to be able to up load it?
So the water is clear & fish are in, just about the right timing for the fish-in.

Good work Mart, glad you're fit enough if not fully fit. Hope we'll get an FOM entry when you make that phone work.

I had the same foot cramping problem in one foot, try a different thickness sock. I use a 3mm left foot, 5mm right foot and I'm cramp free now.

And yes that clip is bloney annoying. I tape over it but that only lasts a few dives and it annoying when I want to swap blades.

Very nice vid magpie, What movie cam are you using ? it has a very nice clear image.

also did you know if you add &fmt=18 to the end of your link embed it will give you a direct link to a h.264 encoded version of your vid ( higher quality ) and if instead you add &fmt=6 it will give you a slightly different version -flash ( i don't think quite as good quality even though slightly higher res )

Nothing special, its just a standard digicam in a housing, can't tell you what sort as it's out on loan at the moment.

I have a possible window of opportunity Sunday night and seing the lack of wind in the forcast and low water (neap) early evening, I might just get wet.

But... Seeing the water is back to murky again east coast where I was fishing last night for a fruitless hour, is it worth it out west?

Also, what sort of time will I need light underwater this time of year to test out my latest ebay accident...

i had a pleasant hour in the swell, (and murk), missed many shots in those last moment 'oooh fishy bang doh' moments. however i managed a couple of dinner size mullet too.

I went for my first kayak spear dive paddle fish out from Rocquaine towards the trois pere's (I think thats what they're called anyway). The viz on the outer reefs was a bit dodgy, so I paddled into a large bay south of Lihou which was much better and soon started seeing and either missing or being too late at shooting bass.

Nothing large, all 2-3lbs, but rusty is not the word, fully corroded! Never mind, I'll get the WD40 out and hopefully next time I get 6 or 7 decent chances I'll be bringing some fish home!!!

Diving from the kayak was good once I got organised, didn't like leaving it anchored up and going off behind some reef or other though, never totally comfortable it'd be there when I got back! Getting on and off was easy enough and it opens up areas that would just be far too far to swim.

i found this worm inside the flesh of the last bass i had, just in case anyone needs a good reason to be cooking their catch !

well done Tom, i like your anchor arrangement - especially the dive reel, however i reckon a bit of chain will help.
my main concern with the kayak is that you can get to places you might not otherwise, but if it does drift (or if you do), you may not be bale to get back so easily... do you think this is a real issue or did you feel comfortable that you could swim back if necessary? how far out would people be comfortable to paddle to spear?? (alone).

what's your new ebay toy ADM?

Well seeing as I spotted it and it seemed cheap... A princeton tec Shockwave dive torch. only 12W seems to be the old style one rather than the new LED ones. Princeton Tec Dive Torch on eBay, also, Dive Lights Torches, SCUBA Snorkelling, Sporting Goods (end time 22-Jul-08 20:15:00 BST) £19 plus post. 8 C cells so I best get some re-chargeable ones and then try and get in the water!! I am determined and it's too bloney hot for sitting on rocks with a rod, plus there's been at least 4 giltheads landed this week out west.

When i'm unlikely to actually go diving as much as fishing I don't need to be spending a fortune.

Well I was always fairly confident it would still be there, but there's alway some anciety yeh. Each time I jumped in I dove down to check the anchor location, and I've now tied two OMD bullets in tandem to give it more holding power. Yes, I reckon I could have swum back if I had to, but it would be a case of getting to the nearest dry land and walking to the car I reckon. How far depends on how fit you feel I reckon. Got to remember the tides too of course.

Easier Tozstyle? Not sure, reckon you'd lose all your dive gear overboard and I bet it weighs too much to put on your roof rack alone, and all the fish will be miles away by the time you turn up. If you're spending that much I reckon a boat would make life far easier! Looks bloney good fun though.

You plan to get wet a lot you eh ADM!
