i came accross a huge shoal of good sized mullets and unfortunately watched them split in all directions :-(
hung around for a bit and tracked down a couple.
took two home for dinners :)
the smaller fish was much whiter meat than the other.. any suggestions why?

I thought Andys answer was as good as any :)
That is why Jonny, mullet will never be as popular as the ever consistent bass!

cold and barren out there today, ah well there's always next time...

Depends where you go and what you know ;).

Sorry I couldn't join you today jonny. At low tide today I was busy collecting one of my cats from the vet (as it was kept in overnight) and leaving the vet his end of year bonus (£220 for the one night and a few happy pills).

Anyway got back and it was dark so although not a perfect tide I thought I'd see if the vis was as good as I'd heard. Bit of a spur of the moment but also wanted to try my new suit (another report on that later). Went to a favourite flatty spot but knew the current would be pushing a bit as it is still spring tide-ish.

Water was cold but suit was warm. Vis was good but current moving the bottom a bit too much. Very few flats left inshore but saw a couple of small plaice and a small brill then managed to spear a nice eating size plaice and a sole of 3lb 11oz. Not much else about, no bass, reds or squid just the usual smelt and shore crabs.

All in all a nice dive to end the year. Happy New year to you all.

Dave

Well, cheerio 2008, hello 2009!

It's been a very frustrating year for me dive-wise. I've only been in maybe half a dozen times and probably only scored a dozen fish. It's mostly been down to the vis - which has affected us all - but on those few occasions when the vis opened up it was just my luck that other commitments kept me dry.

Here's hoping for a bonzer year ahead for everyone - and wishing you all a very Happy New Year.

God bless

Marcel
