The story: diving Port Grat area...saw fish...stuck spear in it.
A nice BRILL of 10 lb.
Faded photo indicates many years have passed! ( not a grey hair in sight!)

Good one Derek - I was even believing it for a second up to the jam jar bottoms, having heard the stories about you lot making your own suits etc!
I think Derek's very modest about his old records (I don't mean Elvis etc) but if you ply him with enough Rocquette and marshmallows next week I'm sure he'll provide entertainment all night!rofl

Current UK spearing record appears to be 4.25kg ( just over 9lb?) held by a Crapaud. Derek, you was robbed!

I'm in agreement that the sewage situation is shameful.
MANY moons ago a company offered Guernsey their new 'BioBubble' waste digestion plant for FREE. I guess they wanted somewhere to soak test their product.
Guernsey turned it down.
There's no excuse in my mind for dumping our shit in the sea... and lately, on the beaches.
What to do though, that's the question. Who can get the gov't to actually listen and do the right thing. We've got a runway extension that's needed you know!

Guernsey turned it down.
There's no excuse in my mind for dumping our shit in the sea... and lately, on the beaches.
What to do though, that's the question. Who can get the gov't to actually listen and do the right thing. We've got a runway extension that's needed you know!

Just wanted to say a belated 'thank you' to Foxfish, Old Man Dave and Jonny250 for their advice, help and hospitality during our stay last week. Anya and I were blown away by how helpful and friendly you all were. We all thoroughly enjoyed Guernsey, it's a beautiful island with such friendly people and so much to do, we felt a bit robbed only being booked for 4 days! We'll have to come back soon.
The Guernsey air certainly did little Ella's lungs the world of good, as she put in some quite colossal screaming performances on the trip, sorry again to OMD and FF for not making it out!
The sewage, wind, swell and lack of viz didn't mar our enjoyment of the place at all - I had a great couple of surfs at Portinfer and La Capelle, and lots of fun trying to find some viz!
I did even manage a few fish in the end...persistence paid off looking for viz - got an unnoteworthy bass from somewhere on the west coast that wasn't quite where I was supposed to be on Friday, and then a couple more, again unnoteworthy bass the day after from where I was supposed to be the day before. (Thanks Jonny and OMD for the heads up). All fish caught in no more than 1m of water!
The only slight downer was being treated like lepers with my family and brother-in-law as we tried to have lunch in La Barbarie in St. Martin on Sat lunchtime. :rcard The maitre d' decided he didn't like the look of either us or little Ella and flatly refused to seat us in the restaurant. They dumped us unceremoniously in the bar-area and wouldn't even let us order off the full restaurant menu (their 'famous' grilled lobster with Guernsey butter was the only reason we went there in the first place!). Needless to say I didn't take too kindly to being treated like this, and we voted with our feet and went off and had a nice lunch at the Beach Cafe at Fermain instead...I suggest you guys avoid La Barbarie if you don't already (I know this is off topic, but I hope it gets picked up on a search engine to put people off going there - they really riled me up :martial!!!)
Anyway, now that's off my chest I can get back to saying thanks again, and if you guys are ever over on the mainland and want to go for a fish please give me a shout! Until next time dudes!

Oh just read back at the old posts and thanks as well to ADM and Magpie for telling me about Mick's! Foxfish told me about it too - awesome shop. I bought 2, one spare for future mishaps!!
Oh and one more thing - there's a Suunto D3 that once was on The-Milkman's wrist floating about somewhere in Perelle bay guys, so keep your eyes open lol! doh!!!

Guernsey forecast today - South to southwest fresh force 5 to strong force 6 veering westerly around lunchtime and decreasing moderate force 4 in the afternoon. And raining again.
Its official I'm going to emigrate. South of France would do me nicely.

Planned to go in the boat for the first tank of the year. By now I've usually done 50+ but with the crap vis etc, still on zero. Went out at 8am to drive the coast for a look-see. Only blowing a 4 from the SW and so sheltered at Bordeaux and the east coast but looked toward the north and lots of white water over the outlying reefs. Plus of course it was thick fog and heavy rain. Gave up and went home. Might be better tomorrow.

Looks like a nice place Andy; weather forecast does look good for the next week here...
I saw the horrendous forcast last week and managed to squeeze out on the last ferry to St malo before the weather broke - had a nice few days in s. brittany
back yesterday and in for a couple of hours at the duck place. specifically wanting to get some photos, i had to laugh when the cloud blanketed out the sun just as i got in the water! here's a couple of piccies, no fish this time tho.
