What's the general opinion of diving on the South coast? just wondering how vis tends to compare at places along the South cliffs when compared to the west coast bays? presumably its generally not as clear due to tide and lack of shelter? anyone dive that side regularly?
Used to tank dive Saints a lot from the shore in my yoof. There is a nice reef which goes out deeper and we used to pick up the odd flattie from the sand. Obviously no weed beds and like all the south coast can be prone to swell.
Petit Bot can be interesting there is a stream which runs into the sea and there can be some weird visual refraction effects where the fresh water mixes with sea. We used to go there spider crabbing out to the left of the bay, also Portelet round to the right is an interesting swim.

Went in this afternoon over the low.
Bumped into Colin who was on a mission stealthing the shallows. Swam over toawrds Rousse looking for a fish - Nothing Came back and on up to Chouet - Nothing
2.5 hours - Nothing other than a handfull of of rather nice clams and razors. I remember You could guarantee at least a couple of plaice in that area in years gone by. I 'm beginning to find all of this a little dissapointing, sure you can catch at night, but in a way that's cheating? I regularly used to pull out 2-3-4 lb plaice and leave lots of little ones, maybe its my eyesight:crutch
Anyhow here are the clams and very nice they are going to be to with garlic chilli and pasta.
Will have another crack at it tomorrow, at least the water is warm even if the viz is crap

Andy, i've heard many stories about the quantities of plaice that used to be in the waters, it must be deeply frustrating seeing the low numbers now. Well done on the shellies tho 
How did you fare col?
I went in with my kayak from petit spot, out and left to the next headland (there were a few people on the beach there in 'skin' coloured swimsuits!).
i had a real learning day, being my first time spearing off the kayak.
i've got a good anchor system sorted finally and it worked fine - pleased with that
shortly after getting in i came accross plenty of fish - mainly rockies, etc, but also saw a bass checking me out from a distance... later i was trying the 'sit on the bottom and wait' routine and a fleet of good size bass came sailing past, big fish... oooooh which one, which ones dinner... so close... i got the shot and fish on. it was big but not huge, however it took the spear and line into the rocks... fish off :-( my spear line was cut (on a rock i guess). anyways, i did manage a coule of bass after that, small tho.
i later paddled back to petit spot, having lost a fin re-boarding the yak (another faff trying to find it - which i did eventually) and pulled the yak up the beach. i wanted to check out the locale to petit spot, so went back in for a bit - really glad i did as it was reallllly fishy fish everywhere, quite amazing. not large, but lots. took myself a 4lb mullet and a smaller one, with the 2 bass thats plenty, so time for tea.
Donated the smaller mullet to the guy who runs the cafe there, he seemed pleased
All in all it was a great day, probably one of my best, in spite of gear failures and all sorts of technical problems along the way (lots to learn!).

Like Andy I saw nothing at Amarreurs, except a bass in the distance which promptly turned and flicked its tail at me, and a couple of large rockies.
Today I tried the rocky place, and the vis wasn't bad in places. Still no sign of any silvery fish though. I saw what looked like another spearo in the distance, but don't know if it was anyone from here.
What was interesting in both places were shoals of tiny bream, complete with black stripes.
( Jonny was it you who texted me about going in South this aft? Sorry didn't see it until I got back, whoever it was.)

Twas me I think. I was out toward lihou.
1 mullet and 1 big rockie + lots of fish seen including an electric ray (left alone - from experience) 3 hours in the water again, the wind was howling yet surreal when on the surface really noisy yet on the bottom really quiet.
