Despite being a prosperous international finance centre we 'Guerns' seem shy when it comes to mentioning 'shags' and prefer to think of them as their larger cousins,the comorants, or the general baby-talk version,'duck-divers'.
I think,probably wrongly,that it's the shags,with their iridescent plumage that we most often see in these parts.

Well now you mention it I actually don't know whether it was a shag I had or not.:)



It could have been either to be honest I was more worried by the explosion of water 2 feet away and the thing that looked like a black umbrella swimming around under me.rofl

You're talking beasties further up the food chain James...the sort that would snack on shags!

I am reasonably sure it was a cormorant as it was pretty big, black back gull size wings, white face and no crest visible, but I might well be wrong.

Just the once Derek, and that was by an American version of the Shag, buts that’s a story for another time.:):):)

Went in last night as Charlie turned up and insisted on a nocturnal surf session :) Booming surf everywhere but what the hell, may as well give it a whirl - alot alot alot of murk going in and the swell was big, got knocked off my feet going in, but immediately found a sole trying to bury itself at my feet, on the stringer, then further out it was guess work just dropping down and looking around in 2m of viz, with orange shapes popping in and out of sight - managed to get two reds - one of which was quite big... pics later maybe if I have time - take it easy - Ed
