OMDs daughter got married yesterday, it was a fantastic wedding with a few sad moments but Dave was not completely left out, there was a little tribute table & he was of course mentioned in Ellie's speech too.

Now I've got for you all a question. Are there fish, shellfish, worms, etc that are associated with eating the dead fish in you area? The equivalent of carrion eaters on land. And would these underwater carrion eaters be primarily scavengers, or are they as easily associated with hunting live fish? I know there are such things on the deep ocean floor, but the onlyGuernsey fish I've seen listed as a scavenger (via fishing Guernsey)is the Bass. And I'm as much interested in the reputation as a scavenger among those who swim the waters.

It was another very uncomfortable dive for me... after finding out the hard way on the comp wknd that my mask was literally falling apart, I was hopeful that my rebuild would be sufficient to keep the ocean out of my eye socket... alas, no. The frame on my mask seems to have lost a clip at the nose bridge so the silicone skirt is no longer compressed at that point. Whinge, whinge, whinge.

WANTED: Does anybody out there have a Technisub LOOK mask kicking about? I had a LOOK for about 15 years and was very happy with it. I had to replace it last year but could only get the new version: LOOK 2 — which totally doesn't fit my face!
FOR SALE: 1 x LOOK 2 mask. As new… been tested in the sea twice.

It was a good dive. Vis wasn't as bad as it looked in the vid. We both actually remarked that it was surprisingly good considering the prevailing conditions. Plenty fishable.
Saw one bass scooting round behind me. Lots of Pollack about, mostly small.

OMD was there i'm sure of it, looking on proudly from where he rests in peace. I'm sure it was a wonderful day for all of you!!!
I'm not sure I'd have Bass down as scavengers. I'm sure they'll have at whatever is available but I'd have them pegged more as a predator.

Nope, Conger are hunters, night time hunters. (although Spaniards rules apply) Congers like flatfish!
When they were plentiful & we ate them regularly, we would find sole, cuttle's, squid, pout & crabs in their gut!
It is a terrible thing to admit but, when OMD operated 300 pots (1985-87) & I was crewman we caught 3-4 conger a day in the summer months.
Some we released but most were killed, the prime section was kept for human food & the rest dried on deck until the next day to be used as pot bait!
Anyhow we regularly found the above mentioned fish & I even remember a plaice or perhaps it was a large topnot.

I agree that bass are scavangers aswell... when the water is clear then are predators, but when its murky (and given they like shallow waters on our shores) they hunt by smell and clear by sight. Hence we fish with plugs in summer a bait in winter...generally...

What's up with posting images???
Got in for a low vis dive yesterday evening, nice once the swell died down, but a bit cooler in than it has been.
Not much seen, but some good breath holds, so quite enjoyable.
I just received the new omer mini laser knife, it has a rubber arm attachment, rather than the old Velcro one - seems better.
I also just serviced my float line, it was half full of water, no wonder it didn't float!!!

My last one was nylon lined every where so I guesse this one will be warmer still..

I am back!! back on Guernsey, new speargun, new knife, new mask and snorkel, new homemade hawaiian sling, and up for spearfishing!!!! I have my 10 foot fibreglass dingy at cobo any news?
