Guernsey 2013

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Went out today for a couple of hours, within 5 minutes of being in the water a shoal of around 20 bass went past me, all from about 1-2lb, I thought that's a great sign. 5 minutes later a 3-4lber moving fast, Doh! the spear skimmed just above him
Carried on, the vis was around 6 meters and improving, took a mul-lei :)
Took another Mul-lei, no more bass seen after that.
Good to see a big shoal of them, shame there wasn't anymore around.
Me and Seaweed are on a mission tomorrow, see what that brings.

The Shadow mask was ace, no longer do I need to clamp a mask on my head for it to stop leaking.

Going out to the knife today on my boat for the first time, don't suppose anyone could give me a rough idea of where to go via pm if need be, what tide ish and where abouts.

thanks

I don't understand the question, boat, what sort of boat, where are you launching or are you traveling from a mooring?
What do you want to catch?
The whole of the Port Gratt bay is good at this time of year but you don't need a boat!

I had a nice dive yesterday, more smallish plaice & a smallish trigger fish.

No I haven't heard about many & not caught any boat fishing but that was the second trigger spearing for me, so maybe there are a few around?
There has been a specimen hunt rod fishing event this past weekend but I have not see any results as yet...

Yeah, I have been in quite a few times latterly & on most occasions caught something mainly 1.25 - 1.75lb plaice but nothing really worth writing about.
I saw the first trigger mooching around an old wrecked crab pot, it was actually going inside the remains & then coming back out, pretty easy shallow water shot! The other one one in the same area but just hovering in the tide.
I have lost the exact count of plaice but I have had a few now, I hope the next spring tided bring a flat sea as I am expecting some more yet...

Managed to get out yesterday after work. Saw a good few under-sized plaice and sole. Managed to bag one sole but nothing to get excited about.

We were out squid fishing in the north yesterday, very thick fog but with radar & GPS we managed a few hours & a box of squid plus 5 bream.
Anyway we witnessed a great sight, a huge bull seal had caught a big ray & was battling with it for some time! The ray appeared pretty big, whipping it tail around & flapping like mad as the seal tried to dispatch it.
I wondered how he picked it up off the bottom?

Prob caught it swimming.
Would love to catch some squid... I presume they are around our waters... just dont hear of them much,

Squid...lovely red squid...

Jez... they are savage...
Will you freeze them, do you only get a short run of them?
What lures did you use and what kinda ground?

My kids would love the eyeballs... thats the first thing they eat with any fish!

Squid...lovely red squid...

Nice catch Foxfish, I was going to try catching some off the lighthouse soon, bought some squid lures from Micks, haven't heard any catch reports but looking at your lot they should be in

The smaller reds don't seem to come so close inshore but I think they make much better eating than the much bigger ones that come in a little later, in the next few weeks I would guess.
They freeze very well Bob but the season is very short, I doubt if we will go again as we have enough to last the winter now!

Lots of bream out there on the boat rods, quite big ones too!

yep and inshore too; one of the netters in the bay by me had lots of red bream [couchs?] and a half dozen white in addition to the usual blacks.

i still need to make one more trip to get my pots - and a few fish too...

Might be reds Jonny as there seem to be a few around!
No diving for you on your birthday mate!!!

Happy birthday jonny :thankyou
