Guernsey 2013

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
That's great!

Great way to cook mucker and looks great!

we used to do somat similar with old harrow discs back in the day back in the Shire. Just lob them on top of a BBQ and cook steaks on em or weld up the holes to make a BBQ wok Good quality steel usually so make great seasoned griddles.

Lots of plaice being caught by the profession boats & there is the 10.5lb one landed a few days ago my a scallop diver with his knife!
I know the diver & the witness so pretty sure the fish was weighed accurately but whether it was a true plaice on a cross breed I cant say.

Cross breed ! With what?

Turbot or brill, quite a bit of controversy about really big plaice as it has been shown that they can cross breed.
I can remember a 18lb one featuring in the angling papers a few years ago & it was eventually deemed a hybrid plaice turbot!

still an amazing fish - the goujons would have been fat! :)

Is anyone else interested in doing some freediving during the Guernsey fish-in? Need to let Stephan know so he can look at numbers and whether its worthwhile organising it properly. I would certainly be keen to do some organised freediving locally...

for info, there is a quarry that is available [although G banged his head at 22m there last time!] and i'm sure we can find a high tide spot without too much tide, and still be able to do the fish-in over the low...

off topic, but for a smile, tonights [slow] bike ride:

To BBQ I would either pre boil for 2 min or - cut in half alive...it depends on the circumstances & you confidence in the BBQ...
I do love the smell of singed shell on the BBQ but the accuracy of boiling ensures delicate flavour & soft flesh so a combination of the 'boil & burn' works well!
I will however be testing the new hot plate tomorrow as I have a bountiful collection of prime lobster....!!

If there is sufficient interest, I could find you over 50m on the boat.

Mike, yes i do take my gps sometimes, i used to always do so off the kayak, but have got to know where the main banks are by sight now now. still useful off the yak tho.

Andy, 50 is little optimistic :) can you find 30m with no tide?

I was in for a bass dawn raid this morning - loads of bass, and i missed a nice one [or two!], but managed a couple on the stringer.

Easy, off the top of my head, 2 hours after high or low on the cement wreck.

Wow Mart that looks amazing! I was fairly sure given the thickness of the plate that it was going to be put to a tasty toasty use, very jealous, think I might have to get creative at work :)

What gear would you recomend for a novice spear fisherman? Wetsuit, gun, etc...

Hi Rossle, thats quite an open ended question :) depends how much you want to spend and perhaps how keen you think you might get and/or how much time you might be putting in.
Fins: long fins [do a search on DB, loads of info]
suit: depends on your shape/size, made to measure will be a tad warmer, open cell inside, defo a spearo suit is warmer with integral hood.
gun: if only 1 gun for summer then a 90cm gun, loads to choose from. fit dyneema wishbone.
dont forget to include a float in the shopping list!!! :)

Another excellent day in/on the water yesterday - fairly heavy bloom going on and vis was well down in most areas. I took the kayak, but managed to forget a stringer which made life a tad awkward.

Well done Jonny, you must be filling that fridge and freezer up nicely, or is it fish for tea every night?

I hear the crab wells are quite full with spiders right now
