I was out in the boat and saw you in the water around the corner from rousse around 4ish. It was very easy to spot you with the set up you have. Good work

Got in twice today I was so keen ha again saw nothing ... I must be doing something wrong this year
I did however have one of my best dives, a new float line and a quickly rigged bodyboard has made the whole spearfishing experience effortless and a lot more enjoyable, thanks again for everyone's advice, my new set up works a treat - now just need to try and get hold of this elusive John from Banks Board - oh ye and find some bloody fish!

Yep Herring, nothing unusual Andy, quite common on the feathers at the point.
Full of bones & not that good a bait but unfortunately the don't tolerate handling so it is pointless retuning them to the sea unless you can shake them off the hook straight into the sea without touching them.... same as mackerel in that respect!

Hi guys, long time no speak, must be at least a year since I've come on the forums, and longer than that since I went out! I've managed to get a few days off next week, and will be in Jersey for a couple of days. I don't suppose any of you chaps would be prepared to take a poor, bearded noob out for a bit? Have my own kit largely, although its a mush mash of specific kit and improv gear... Would be amazing if any of you are game!
Just in case you all think that I have caught nothing but a solitary herring, here are my other catches from the last two days:
Hi in addition to the other very wise advice given, I also use washing line, and as an enhancement tie on a long 2 lb ish weight to the quick release clip, then if you want to go into thick weed ( like at the Knife) you can unclip it and anchor the SMB without it drifting away. Also makes a useful reference point and tide indicator. I was given this tip some years ago by one of the very experienced members on here ( probably the late and great Old Man Dave).

Yes that was Daves technique, so he could mark a flatfish or lobster if one was spotted at the end of a breath hold... or more often, to show less experienced students the fish in question.
Many times he would shout me over if he found a well buried fish that was marked with his weight & float line so I could gain experience spotting them & the signs to look for, like a pair of eyes or a tiny section of fin just visible in the sand!
I use the same technique myself now, I find more use marking holes that flatfish but as Colin points out the weight system is great for anchoring your float when it is not needed.

Went out again today at low water on the west coast vis was good up to around 5-6m in patches a new spot pointed out by a friend has turned up trumps 2 descent size bass around the 4-5lb mark and about 9 whopping great big mullet so a great dive and lots seen but nothing brought home.
I was far too inpatient with the bass and 'blew my load too quick' so to speak... Rather than waiting for a placement shot and then I fannyed about too long with the mullet and they bloody swam off, the cheek of it!
Never mind though better luck next time,
