I just had a messmomerom Apneaboy - Steve who was here last weekend - he has let me know that he can run a course for us if we want - he is based in Manchester so there are direct flights.

Shooting line can make a big difference to the guns performance!
There are quite a few choices for the material too...
The guys who compete in target shooting competitions use very thin dyneema to reduce the considerable drag the line causes in the water & in turn improves trajectory and spear speed...
Unfortunately Dyneema tends to tangle, especially with very thin lines but lots of spearos use it.
With any low stretch line or braid you need a bungee to help attach the line to the release & absorb the shock when the spear pull the line tight at the end of its flight.
Most spearos use mono in the 100lb to 200lb range, with the more stretchy lower diameter mono you don't need a bungee but with the most popular mid range size 150-175lb a bungee is still required.

Thats useful to know Ive just put 40lb mono on mine its seems ok at the moment but with bear that in mind

40lb is extremely thin mate! I don't think that is a safe option, even a good knot will take that down 10% & a bad knot or tight crimp will reduce the strength by 50%... you might spear a 15lb bass that dives into the weed!!!

shooting line - you can use strimmer line from B&Q - works well. i use the 1.9mm crimps from Micks.

Yeah the thicker the line the less the tangle but more the drag, I also use strimmer line, there are quite few diameters & colours available...
You cant beat a thick short line for night diving!

Hopefully out testing tonight mate will let you know. Got my new weight harness too and drop line so going to be playing around a bit until its right. Need to buy some thin immersion socks today was going to try dive centre, sail or surf and micks. Anywhere else you think? Looking for thin ones 2mm

Went in the north of island friday and south today both had vis at 1-2m alot of fish seen at saints before I went in at the mouth of the bay. Going to wait for the wind to ease before I go in again
