If I was diving last night, there would have been a shoal of mullet following me.
(Must have been something that I ate.)
Nope - pretty sure it wasn't bait fish, I was swimming amongst them most the night and was familiar with their movement etc.. It went under me then appeared on my right side after a minute or so then dropped back and came alongside again shortly after. It was with me for about a minute and a half and I had plenty time to check it out, just couldn't see enough detail to conclusively ID it. My first thought was it was a big tope but its body was too heavy. Still could easily have been a seal but whenever I've encountered them at night they tend to move up and down at different depths. This just came alongside and was at about 5ft down matching my speed. I never felt threatened by it at all - pretty cool 
Vis was excellent in some areas. One of the flatties I speared was at 7.5 m and I saw it from the surface. Closer in I guess it dropped to around 4/5 m which was still nice enough to watch all the fish life.

A bass selfie. About 2lb out In the open being harrased by 5 pollack (Not looking at me) Vis very good this morning about 5m lots of bait fish about tooView attachment 39244 At last

Had a totally amazing kayak and swim/dive today - around the outer reefs.
First stop i saw bass over the sand, but in the clear water they stayed out of range. Then out for some 10m drops looking for flatties. saw some pollack to about 3lb but no flatties.
Then into the tide for a couple of hours of paddle up, dive down and along, over and over. saw a shoal of black bream with bass together and had to choose... lined up on the bream, then changed my mind - and got the bass Later on i found a massive shoal of pollack, the biggest shoal i've seen with 100+ good size fish playing at the edge of the tide and in a hole below the flow. Took loads of drops into the shoal which was totally amazing - fish everywhere! Then i noticed there were bass in with the pollack so i was brushing the pollack out the way with the gun to aim at the bass... couldnt get a good line on the bass, but took one nice pollack. some of the big ones on the edge of the shoal were around 5lb but i couldnt get near those.
a good day out but knackered now!
just ordered a gopro last week, so will try again hopefully next week to get some footage...

Nice day in Jersey yesterday for the Alain Lenaghan memorial dive. Didn't spear anything but had 6 hours of fun in the water. Thanks to all the welcoming Jersey boys and club apnea.
Got in today even though I was feeling pretty tired! Just looked to nice not to get wet. Found a nice bass cruising in the luminous green carpet weed, shot from above at pretty much maximum range and got it straight through the top and out the belly on the angle. (6lb 6oz) vis was pretty good and the sea was totally still. Bass for tea

Cheers Mart, the lovely dive yesterday has made my weekend.
Yeah I enjoyed it but definately thought I would have seen more fish. I was mainly shallow water stalking like most spearos in the water yesterday. Jap weed beds were absolutely huge and there was plenty of tidal flow also. The area seemed perfect and I stayed in virtually the whole 6 hours expecting the fish to turn up when the tide changed but saw nothing except a few small mullet and 1 small bass! There were a few mullet speared and 4 bass, 2 small a 6lber and the winner at just over 7lb. Was great to get away and meet up with the club apnea boys but you can't beat home turf.
Didn't see many at all mate and the ones I did see were not the size I see on almost every dive in Guernsey. Saw a mahoooosive one on the dive yesterday. Wouldn't like to guess how much it weighed.
I saw a pair tucked up on a ledge on the Knife on my last night dive. Really wish I'd had the camera, one of them looked over 8lb.
Nice Bass you got - I'm sure there will be bigger and better around over the next few months [emoji1]

re Torch, best way is to use a strap around your wrist, so that you can let go if you need to. if you put it on the gun you will only be able to see where the gun is pointing rather than sweeping the light around to look around.
i use a small light on my mask too, just turn it on when needed.
