Definitely getting wet Wednesday or Friday, looking to book half days off at work. All depends on wind direction on where I go and what I target
So, in with Ed for my first dive in over 14 months. Didn't start well with Ed's torch packing up after 2minutes in the water, but handed over my spare and off we went, viz was reasonable enough, 3-5m, and not long in I came across a nice bass minding its own business which came along with me.
Loads of tiny red mullet the cute little buggers and small squid about, with the odd small plaice and sole here and there. Ed found a massive cuttle sat there with a big crab in its tentacles, which it promptly spat at me and scooted off in a huff when I poked it. Then found a decent enough plaice and Ed um'd and ah'd over a borderline brill which on the forth dive to inspect it he decided to leave for another day.
Mooched about hoping for some more flatties but there was only small ones about, and kept getting buzzed by a bloney longnose which wouldn't leave me alone!
Then Ed went weedwards looking for bass and I stayed on the gravel. Turns out all he found as a decent sole which he left be as just at that moment I started screaming to get his attention. Thinking I'd shot myself he hurried over to find me clutching my chest, but found that I was merely hugging a fish, a bloney gilthead.
I'd seen the bugger from the surface in 3-4m and having missed my one and only previous chance at a gilty many many years ago I was petrified off doing so again. Knowing they're pretty flighty I risked a silent exhale decent and decided to try and make it a dead cert before taking the shot as I'd rather see it swim off than miss for a second time. Fortunately he kept just pootling along and got the bad news square through the gill plate, which made me very happy.
I do have to thank Jonny for this though, I had planned to just take a handspear tonight as my main target was flatties but seeing his gilthead made me decide to take a gun instead, cheers mate!

So we headed out from Rousse with our kayaks this morning - me a little late as it was foggy, but the others were super keen and ready to go! launched just after 9 and headed out towards some uptide reefs. unfortunately there wasnt much around so we went with the drift through the Cherete and ended up on the ninepin reef for a bit, but still pretty quiet so i suggested some drops on the sand over the cherete channel itself. All good and i found a nice pollack on one drop; the bottom was about 7m so easy enough to make out bottom features from the surface.
@Fro-in-shorts had to leave us at this point so @little sarge and i paddled over to my favourite spot fro some drops around the quenon and further along. i managed to find another pollack and then one more. my favourite diving - dropping onto the sand on the edge of the tide
we headed inshore after that and Little S found a bream which he didnt take, sounded like a good size fish. i found a scooly bass to add to my stringer and saw several more in shoals.
After a spot of lunch we headed in to try our luck inside the knife, but it was pretty barren.
All in all a really good bit of diving, very few fish seen, but i was pleased with the pollacks. looking forward to see what next week holds! Thanks for the company chaps

Yeah cheers Jonny was a great day with a lot of new things to get my head around. Completely different style of fishing to what I am used to and I am sure I will get there before long. Was hitting the bottom at 10m no probs but not able to stay there for long enough, felt much more comfortable at 7m.
Just seeing that lovely sized white bream made my day, that's the third time I have seen one know and not been lined up for a shot. Also saw small bass and pollacks, plenty of large mullet around too.

Went local today as the conditions were perfect for the spot, took about 8 shots today, mainly Mullet but did see a shoal of Bass go past, too excited for my own good and should have waited, lined up on the 4lber ish, but miss.
Changed my float line to 15 metres as my line was around 8 metres but big difference with the longer line and less drag, added more cork board to the metal camera arm I have and the gun now floats, and is less heavy on my wrist, had holes in my gloves and suffered with cramp after an hour, so new ones need to be ordered. All in all a more enjoyable experience
Marinated the mullet fillets in just lemon and chilli, but chopped into cutlets. Beach BBQ with them on was ace, they tasted great - the best Mullet taste ever....ha!

As Fro said, we were in for a plonge du nuit last night. Viz was ok but not great but it turned out to be a variety dive of the highest order.

Fro: John Dory, Red Gurnard, Red Mullet, Plaice
Magpie: 2 Plaice, Bass
Other seen but not taken: 3 smallish turbot, hundreds of plaice (all just too small), thousands of tiny red mullet, squid from 1 inch to 8inch (no autumn busters yet), topknot, another John Dory, Tub gurnard, tiny couches bream, small soles.
And probably more I've fogotten. Nothing massive seen or taken but loads of life.

Those tiny red mullet are hilarious , perfect miniatures of the big ones, sat bearded on the bottom, half the time they were sat on plaice

Took the day off and went off the southern end of the knife. Didn't see any bass only 4 mullet got 3 of them. Vis started to get worse just before low water. Very enjoyable swim watching all the small pollack and what I think were either baby mullet or bass small silver fish with a black lateral line

Went in at night last Thursday evening for first time. Sneaked out of bed past the wife at 1am bit eary with sea fog but it cleared and I went in. Got 3 plaice and can anyone identify that ray? (Blonde or skate). Checked all legal sizes before I went in but not ray! Luckily it was just over legal limit. Bit like fishing in a barrel as Grant told me, must have seen 15+ flatties and took the biggest. Nice to see so many juvenials about. Shame fishermen can net the bays from 1st October. Out at 2am with sea fog, street lights out and the moon moved. Easy to get in with compass but nightmare to find the car but worth it

Rockie, maybe try to aim through the head and you will not spoil the fleshy part so much? just a suggestion.
@little sarge and i got in on the East coast this afternoon and enjoyed some swelly hunting. i managed to find a shoal of black bream with bass and possibly also gilties together. Weird watching bass and bream together.
i managed to bring one Black bream of 35cm home which i was pleased with - only had a couple of those before i think. drops were 12m deepest over the sand and vis on the bottom over the sand was ok, over the weed was shocking bad. Here's a piccie, not the best!:
