Rockie, maybe aim through the head and you will not spoil the fleshy part so much? just a suggestion.
@little sarge and i got in on the East coast this afternoon and enjoyed some swelly hunting. i managed to find a shoal of black bream with bass and possibly also gilties together. Weird watching bass and bream together.
i managed to bring one Black bream of 35cm home which i was pleased with - only had a couple of those before i think. drops were 12m deepest over the sand and vis on the bottom over the sand was ok, over the weed was shocking bad. Here's a piccie, not the best!:

The mullet I was just pleased to hit Jonny. Point taken with flatties will put the holes in the head next time mate

Here we go again. My work mate Is hopefully going to buy my old wetsuit which means I am going to get a new camo one. Got a few queries I need some advice about and I know I am going to get different answers but will hopefully avoid pitfalls.

Thickness 5 or 7mm?
Make (don't think this really matters)?
Material closed or open cell?
Camo type? Guessing brown not green
Pads? Chest and knees anymore?


Any other things I should consider?

Prepare for lots of different opinions [like guns ]
Thickness 5mm but maybe get a vest for winter. get long john legs so you get a full chest double layer.
Make (don't think this really matters)? this really matters.
Material closed or open cell? open cell inner, closed cell nylon or lycra outer.
Camo type? Guessing brown not green - irrelevant, whatever you think makes you look prettiest .
Pads? Chest and knees anymore? chest and knees, yes.

Any other things I should consider? MTM or try before you buy if off the shelf.
best way with an off the shelf suit is to go to Apnea and try it on. dont believe the measurements, they lie

i have always used Elios MTM and they have been superb.

Made to measure, if your budget will stretch go for Elios if not go for http://oceanos-wetsuits.com/
5mm is the best all round suit thickness.
Nylon lined inside is an option, I have both lined & unlined Oceanos MTM suits. I personally prefer the lined inside model but I don't really dive in cold water!
The un lined suit (smooth skin inside nylon outside) is slightly more pliable & might well be slightly warmer but this is not an issue for me.
However it must be said that the general opinion is a 5mm smooth inside, nylon outside is by far the mot popular spearfishing suit for good reason.

I thought I was a size 2 Omer according to online measurements and I was a 4 in the end, I would have paid more in posting suits to apnea and back than I paid for the £30 day trip. I use a 5mm Omer mixed cammo 3D 5mm and it's a lot warmer than my old 7mm mares dive suit. Plus if you take Mrs Rockie to Jersey for the day you can earn brownie points for more spearing time.

I ordered mine online from Scuba store (who many wouldn't recommend) after measuring every part of my body according to the Omer chart, guess I got lucky as mine is a perfect fit, being just under 6feet 5, means I'm limited to a certain range of wet suits

Crept out past sleeping Mrs Rockie at 3am for another go a night. Looking for flatties so gun wasnt loaded and came across a bass. I decided to poke him with spear for being cheeky and after paddling away I loaded gun. Swam around 5 minutes then he came back where I got the chance to weigh him not big but 2.5lb. Saw 2 others one of them I guess was 5lb+ but as soon as the spear tip was in the torch beam they scarpered. I saw them again 3 times but just stayed out of vision of torch beam like they do in daylight. Not 1 flattie seen not even little ones they must cover themselves again a couple of hours before daylight or not ckme out at all when its a full moon? Back in bed again Mrs Rockie still asleep

Saw a load of dead blonde rays on the beach at the Richmond end of Vazon yesterday. All fairly small, a pound or two. Looks like someone might have started early.

Interesting dive today with LS and Jonny, lots of mullet and bass seen, got in an hour before low and was looking for lobsters, failed epically but did wind up with this, any guesses?
