Not odd mate it applies to all shell fish so the authority's can check sizes... for example .. if you land a crab claw without its body, how can anyone check the size of the crab it came from, so only whole crustaceans can be landed ... or.. how can you check the size of a scallop if the shell is not available?

Spoke to a friend Mart and you are correct. You must be somewhere where people can walk to you so they can check the size. For example you could shuck them on your pontoon in the marina but not on a floating mooring. He said most people take the shells back out with them and dump them over the sides which might explain all the empty shells.

Mart is right its so sea fisheries can tell the size of the scallop. They dont want undersized ones removed from their shells at sea because once removed from its shell they can not tell its size. Its so they can control size limits
The cygnus had an alpha flag on a buoy so i guess there was a diver down. i was tempted to go and say hello - would have been funny to see his reaction.

it was good fun although the choppy water made it hard for the breathe-ups.

It says about scallops, fish size limits, netting bays, ormers, etc but is likely to change when the new laws come into play

Had a chance to use my improved breath holding today, had a load of plastic wrapped around my prop shaft on the way to Dielette. One dive to check out what I was dealing with and a second to return and cut it off. Could not have done all of the cutting in one go a few months ago, probably took me about a minute and was still relaxed getting out from under the boat.
Well quite a fruitful weekend for me, I had planed to go find me a flatfish but instead a friend gave me a nice 4lb sole (scuba) so I went on a land based foray, found plenty of mushrooms to go with our sole.
In fact it has been a dry period for mushroom hunting but the recent rain has had the desired effect!

No Jon, Honey Fungus. Its certainly erupted all over the shop. Had a good year for Chanterelles myself, still waiting on the ceps.
