Holiday Guernsey 2008

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Might need 2 groups for night dives. I will offer one for sure. Magpie and Ed are experienced night divers, also George and Marcel, plus Andy R. maybe. Depends on weather but might get everyone in L'Ancressse and pembroke or maybe Port Grat. All depends but it will happen somehow. Promise.

Happy to lead a night dive, plenty of room in L'Ancresse, not sure there'll be many fish left afterwards though!

Mart put me down for a Captains table Carvery, sounds great and I like the sound of the Wine list to (not sure why as I don’t really drink that much):):)
I’m also up for a night dive this time as well, looking forward to a dive with the masters of the nocturnal hours very much.:D

That is a serious point maggers. Mart and I were concerned last year that we might create adverse feeling and unwanted negative publisity if a whole bunch of visiting spearo's started hammering the fish stocks. Turned out we needn't have worried as the weather was not on our side, the visitors were conservation minded and Spaniard helped out by making up the numbers while catching nothing much :).

Still having met the guys I know that they would be as keen as we are to foster good relations while still making the most of their visit and enjoying some good catches. So I was thinking 2 groups of 4/5 would be better at 2 locations rather than 1 group of 8+ all togather.

Might be nice if you and I videoed the dives too. Who can forget your Halloween night spectacular? :king

That ideal works in well with my "cooking fire house parties" as well, far easier to cook for 6-8 than double that amount.
It also means I can party hard for two nights!
PS thanks Tom.

Wohhhh they're going to need a full two weeks at this rate!:) Herm is a great idea though - quite a unique experience. Also good for spearing - no only joking!

I'm happy to share out doing dinner again one night - paella, beanjar, whatever, and of course the famous ice cream! :friday:friday

At this rate August may be the next time we all go in!:head

Not sure there'll be that many that have torches to be fair Dave. Everyone would need one, wouldn't have to be that powerful as anyone without could stick to the main beam, but everyone needs something for safetys sake. The starlight taped to snorkel would be good too, I've got loads.

I've got two spare torches, one that would be ok and one thats the bare minimum. Yeh, I'd be taking the camera and leaving the gun at home.

Hi OMD

A few clues

Then - Fins - Cressi Rondine black rubber
Mask - Mares? Stabilizer
Gun - Hawaiian sling made from bamboo and catty elastic
Suit - None! ( but trunks were in the new 'Nylon')

Now - All the new kit. ( No Mamba yet though! )I don't know when
superstretch neo was invented - but that's what got me back
in - 3 years ago.

Look forward to long fireside chats - as the weather will probably be sh*te all year!!

Birchy

I'm up for Herm, not fussed about night-diving, I'll help with cooking this year and fireside entertainment of course. If anyone wants a master class in filleting ask Mart/OMD. If anyone wants to see mangled bits of fish being ripped to bits with a blunt knife then watch me.

Last year I deliberately left all the prime fish alone as I didn't want to seem like a supreme athelete; also people were slipping 'things' into my drinks which severely impaired my abilities. This year will be different!

Anyway I can hardly lay claim to a trophy which I supplied, people would think it was all a fix roflrofl

Can help out with night dives / day dives and the car might be working by then too...
Ed

I should have a van by then which I'll be able to chuck many spearo's in the back of, it'll be safest to pack them in tight so they can't move around anyway!

I've kept quiet on this because not sure if we will be here, hopefully back from holiday by then. No wedding this year though....phew!

If we are here I will gladly help out in anyway I can. Night Dive, help cooking (I used to be a chef in a former life) boat trip say to the Humps Dave? I may even have a couple of spare bedrooms at best or plenty of space in the garden if anyone wants to camp.

Might even offer to host a greenhouse party. Anyhow count me in for whatever it would be great to meet up and put faces to names.

Andy

ps Ive got a pile of spare weights for anyone flying in

OK I haven't contributed on this thread before for 2 main reasons - firstly I'm a newbie to the island and dont know anything about spearfishing and secondly every day seems like a holiday over here (ducks for cover)...
Seriously tho, I plan to put the week aside as holiday and can offer lifts to/from airport/ferry/beaches, etc.
there's only 7 months to go, so i hope everyone is fully booked in and got theirselves organised :)
Count me in on the filleting masterclass lessons...

Well thanks Andy & Jonny - Andy you are a man full of surprises!
The humps might be a bit daunting for anyone who has never experience the "free ride to France tide run"? However a joint boat trip to the point for a few macs with Dave would be fantastic?
Jonny at the rate you are going we will be following you around!
The point is - the more the merrier so thanks for the offers guys. :)
