how deep can I go without squeeze?

CDavis i agree completely, thats what makes this forum greta is that we can all listen and learn.... in most cases :) from each other, and it remain consructive rather than degenerate into a rabble of insults like on many other forums i used to frequent.

i persoanlly have learned alot over the years either directly from what people have discussed or as a result of testing i have done due to ideas on this forum, it keeps things interesting and only increases the addiction level to this sport.... dangerous!!

Rovenpera, defiently it is true to work slowly and pay attention to pressure however the pressure limit is very personal and depends on many thing 20-30m is not a bad general rule however there are MANY diver that feel strong pressure at 10m then there are those that feel no pressure at all much deeper 50m+. over time and training the "Pressure" one feels becomes deeper and deeper as we become more relaxed and our body learns to become more flexible.

i guess the way i started is probably very similar to most.

when i first started diving pressure was present from 5m and became uncomfortable at just 9-10m then obver the years we adapt and now i feel no pressure what so ever at 30m plus on inhale and start to feel some pressure (if at all) well below 40m.

with time we adapt, so i agree that taking it slowly and listening to your body is important but any attempt to say that a person can dive to XXm or shouldnt dive past XXm is futile.

the pressure difference between 0 and 10 meters halves the lung volume, so that is about the same as the pressure difference between lungs at full inhale and lungs after a passive exhale on the surface, FRC being generally about half of TLC. Maybe your inhale wasn't so full when you were beginning diving?

I remember hitting the pressure when I got to around 25m, and that was a completely new sensation for me at that time, very different from earlier dives :)

defintetly know the differencr between inhale and FRC (passive exhale)! hahahah i've been having FRC drilled into me for a couple of years now and do ALOT of diving on it, good for Pressure adaptation and EQ training.

like you said pressure at 10 being double that of thje surface, so a very noticable pressure change, and that would be why i felt so different at just 10m. definetly wasnt diving anywhere near RV back then compared to my inhale now i'm guessing i was working on around 80% back then.

lung volume has changed alot since i started, but more than anything else my lung and ribcage (related) flexibilty has improved beyond measure and that along with feeling more at open in the water over the last 10years or so since i started i think have attriputed to me not feeling pressure now till quite a bit deeper 40m+.

Nick, great article, thanks.

Fun to see Laminar's name on it. The guy knows his stuff.

One growing concern for me is repetitive squeeze. I've squeezed myself(minor) 3 times and each time the recovery takes longer, much longer. More than a little scary.
