How much is too much?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
No worries, just wanted to make sure that there was no confusion.

And regarding my previous post. I don't do any breath up either. But as written in other threads some subconscious hyperventilation might still be involved.

Well in my opinion in order to progress you need to know where you are at. If you have no goals based off of others accomplishments set you have nothing to push for. Only setting personal goals based souly on your own current abilities will never help you reach your full potential. No one has ever lost a competition with themelves. This means no matter how poorly you progress you have won when you only compete with yourself. Ideally one should dive with guys who are better then them. That way your always trying to catch up rather then plateu at your comfort level. Thats how i see it.

FreeRestiction this makes sense but what about the guy who's the best in the world? Who are they catching up with? Obviously they must have another way.

Ms Mer: I'm right with you but, like FreeRestriction, sometimes I find it hard not to focus on numeric goals - especially when I move backwards!

Maybe, FreeRestriction, you can compete with yourself to see how non-competitive you can be. Lol ;-) Seriously - see if you can not react when you find youself in a competitive situation. Be Yoda not Anakin!

Last summer I was on holiday training and our coach asked each of us what our goals were. He really tends to hold us back so that we're never over extended and always hungry for more. I've heard a lot of peole complain and say they want to do more depth or whatever but he always says no, take it slowly. Believe me I want a PB in CWT as much as anyone! But when he asked what my goals were I just said - To do all the dives you ask me to do without ever saying "Let me do more". That made him laugh. And on that holiday it probably was the hardest thing!

A strange thing about me... I never go over the instructor's indications. whether he tells me to do only 5 meters 100 times or two times doing 100 meters (I'd probably BO) i'll just do it. It's like i just trust their expertise to the point where i don't think about it too much. which usually allows me to get better more quickly, because people tend to doubt their instructors too much and if they don't they usually just ask for more advice. most of their teachings become unconcious so i get better with little time because i don't have to think about it, i let the instructor do the thinking. =D

at least that works for me. i'm good at following instructions.
