I´m hard working on getting it ready to ship. Research on the how the lens needs to look is done, but now I´m working on buildig it in a good quality as a serial product.

I will post here asap.....

do you know if you are planing to test your new lens at depths? i would like to take it diving. i think i remember something about the original housing going past a hundred feet?

in anycase it looks good!

Hi,

yes the lens will be tested. The first test will be in pressure testing box for camera gear. After that I will take it for " real" dives. The plan is to keep the same depth rating as the original housing. As I am from germany I do not know the feet rating but gopro claims the housing to work to 60 meters of depth.

Hi,

I do not own a Hero SD, so I do not have any chance to test it. But the basics of the correction is the same. The only thing to take care of is the native resolution of the camera chip. I think this is different from the HD Version and so it can cause black corners on the picture regarding the distance of the lens to the housing. So the picture will be in focus but ir might look like a real fisheye lens with soft black corners. I try to get a SD Hero to do some testings. Most things I do right now is test work to make sure evrybody is happy. I did not expect such a big feedback an need of people for a solution.

Best regards

Does the NON widescreen go pro HD suffer from this problem ?

I have the standard go pro wide and find it frustrating to use underwater for filming specific subjects as you have to get so close , also on a night dive it narrows the torch beam out too much.

for those who missed it,

Here is a spearfishing video with my gopro modified hd camera.

In fact is there even a non wide angle version of the go pro HD ?

Hi Flysteadicam,

Any developments in the lens? Expected release dates etc. Still holding out on your lens befor I start to mess about with the camera, not sure about my skill in this department.

trying not to be a pest, but....... any joy on lens yet??

Or does anyone know of any products for sale yet???

But please not the bag lens thats for sale as it simply doesn't suit my needs and looks kack.

several folks have had success at modding the housing...the general thing is to put a flat lens over the existing one or replace the existing one with a riser and a flat lens.

some folks have salvaged lenses from other underwater housings and epoxied them over the existing lens

others have removed the existing lens, places a riser and o ring on the housing and affixed a flat lens of polycarbonate.

Eyeofmine (the bag company) has a housing that they are selling with the complete camera set that is a flat lens affixed to a modified housing.

Hi,

I did some more testing on my holidays last week. Actually the solution is as easy as it looks. The dome lens needs to shoot into air before the light breaks from air to water with a flat port. The version eyeofmine is sellings seems to be pretty well.

I´m still looking for a nicer solution instead of glueing a piece of plastic onto my housing. But to be honest, that will do the job.

If you want to increase the picture quality you should also think about using a red or orange filter. I did some testing with the orange one I use for my DSLR and it looks awesome, also in deeper water. The filter increases color and also contrast and funny enough, it looks sharper than without.

I will keep on researching, but as I do work a lot in my "normal" work I cannot promise any timeslots.

best wishes

Patrick

i guess you're saying it looks less out of focus, right?

what happens in air? as long as the filter does not have any optical strenght, it should not affect the out of water focus, is that right?

thanks
