hunt with a knife?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I don't see the same problem with flatties as they can be safely landed with probably less risk of escape than with a speargun. But come on, attacking large fish on the grounds that it's a fair fight? What if you can't land it? What happens to the fish then? If you drown it's your problem. There are a lot of young and easily influenced people who read these forums as well as a fair few who would see all blood sports banned. If you want to be an underwater hunter then do it responsibly

Like I said, I only knife the usual flatties, that is within My limits.
I said that I think knifing wolfies is lunacy... just like spearing large congers (you might even disagree).
I just pointed out that its common practice here for the bolder hunters to knife wolffish and anglerfish as they are very easy to spear. the anglerfish is a static flatfish that relies on its camo. the wolffish is fairly static like conger and usually holed up... if it is holed up then its not going anywhere, injured or not. Its not at all like bass or mullet.
I dunno how familiar You are with these species but its a whole different ballgame.
I'm not promoting some crazy out there ideas... underwater hunting is shown on TV here. including the knifing of the species I mentioned.
I'm not in the habit of lying to appease some veggies with an axe to grind.

Haha, too true you discover new things about your mates every day it seems roflroflrofl

yes like where they live and which poisons would be most effective on them

i plotted the perfect murder I will just wash his wetsuit in a bucket of chum, and spray GW female ferimones all over him while he isnt looking. Then we can take bets if he gets "speared" to death or eaten first. :D

my mind is a deep dark disturbing place to be!

Famous last words from Iggy in one of the crow movies...

Don't worry, I'm sure He'll be dreaming up something just as twisted as We speak. I just hope it doesn't involve babboons.

still it was the shark that did the deed :) yeah baby your going down...............

I had a scuba student one time who could grab trout out of mid-water as they swam by- very impressive.

Some friends of mine were diving on some deepish wrecks out in Lake Michigan (200'+) when they kept coming up on these burbot all over the wreck. One of them grabbed his knife and stabbed a couple to cook up after the dive. This is pretty easy on scuba as we grab them by the tail all the time when we're swimming through the wrecks- they kind of curl up and look like sleeping cats.

I know that I could have stabbed some nice sized walleye in Lake Mendota in the past- but this is highly ilegal in my area so I can only dream about it. The same could be down with carp sleeping on the bottom. I just need to put a lanyard on my knife, so I don't loose it, but it would be easy when they are just lying there hiding in the weeds.

Actually, now that i think of it... I have slapped a few eels. I'm in the UK next week but when I get back I shall try punching various fish. I should be quite good at it since I'm Scottish.

How do you know that carp is asleep? might just be meditating.

Reactions: deep thinker
As for the flatties etc... its a matter of being sporting, spearguns are overkill in some cases.

Overkill is right... I've been having luck with grabbing "flatties" by hand lately.
Definitely not a guaranteed meal, but good sport.
The best part is my reaction afterwards; tends to go a bit like this rofl
And then you lose the fish.

LOL... what are We becoming on this thread? soon We'll all be punching and grabbing fish for dinner. I wonder if fish have pressure points that would disable them when struck... Bruce Lee would know... or chuck norris.

I am working a on a sonicradiationmolecufier that eliminate the need for spearguns and cook your fish on the spot. You might end up with three arms but hey its all about convenience.
