hunt with a knife?

LOL... what are We becoming on this thread? soon We'll all be punching and grabbing fish for dinner. I wonder if fish have pressure points that would disable them when struck...
Oh no...we'll be back onto biting the heads of fish again soon (it was a joke, at least it was for me...of course, I can't speak for the other contributors;))

Thought the barbs on the back of Rambo-style combat knives was for show/extra gruesome killing. Seeing the picture of Manny, you have to wonder if they somehow act the barb on a speargun, holding the fish. [Must cause a dilemma for Omer -- how can they make the most of sponsoring somebody who uses a knife (or polespear) rather than a speargun. Looks a bit like George Best/Manson/Kris Kristopherson.]

Actually... since I got a tinted mask fish have occasionally swam right up to My face. If I could master quick powerful suction like a John dory then I could quite possibly bite their heads off. Well perhaps after I master fish punching.

you could try and catch them with chop sticks karate kid style, and it is technically sushi.

For those who want to have a go with hunting with a knife consider one of these gadgets made by Capn Leo. Same skills required but less chance of the fish escaping injured.

Looks gruesome. How do you hold it - like a sword, like a dagger or like a punch knife?

It was designed I think for Halibut so I'd imagine like a punch knife but it could be made any way you want. It was just an illustration of a way to allow this type of hunting without using a knife alone which has no way of stopping the injured fish swimming off to die, after all how many of us freeshaft with a barbless spear?

That thing looks awesome! Man, i was just thinking if you could only make the shaft a little more streamlined and then throw it at the halibut. Or make some way of slinging it at the fish like a sling shot or somthing. Imagine how many fish you could get with an invention like that. :martial

/wink

I tried to catch an 80 pound tarpon last year (with my arms, not a knife). He made a fool out of me. I can't imagine that we could get into their circle of safety with a knife.

ARMS? were you going for hugging him to death.. LOL Damn 80 lbs. Nice most people start small and work up, , , most people. You coulda just knocked him out with your giant nuts. As funny as the mental picture of someone trying to bear hug an 80 lb tarpin is.( I wonder what he/she was thinking). I give you credit for attempting something that fleetingly pops up in the back of my mind, and then is pushed even further back, then vanishes.

In downtown Grand Cayman they have a water trampoline that you can swim out to. In between, there are these massive tarpon just hanging out. They would let you swim right in the group--up to about six feet away.
