hunting in black sea

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
The regulations are very simple. There is no license required, you can own and use any type of speargun you like.
However, there are some rules as regards the catch.
You are allowed to catch only one turbot bigger than 45cm in diameter (from the tip of the head to the end of the tail). This practically means a fish bigger than 2 kg. If you catch more than one turbot the fine starts from 250 euro and can go up to 500 or even higher. I'm not sure how high.
As for the other species, the law says that you are allowed to catch up to 3 kg of fish per session, plus one fish bigger than 3 kg. However, this is only by law and I would be very surprised if even the authorities know about it. This rule has never been enforced, so practically if you can catch more than 3 kg of fish no one will give you any trouble about it.

ooo
thank you very much...
it seems the law in your country are farr more good than in romania...

it is a good posibility for me to make my vacation this year in burgas...perhaps in the late august and early september:):):):)

Nice catch, Vali.
It is becoming more difficult now when the water is hot. There is no thermocline (at least not until 20m. deep) and fish are not that concentrated as a month ago.
Now I only go to deep reefs to seek bonitos, bluefish and hopefully some doradas. I'll let you know when I catch something interesting.

thanks!
so! do that for me please!
it is true that the mullets are fewer this weekend than 3 weeks ago...
i don't understand why because i know that they love warm waters in the shallow bay...and after all the matting season must begin allready...
i went hunting for mullets early in the morning or late in the afternoon, because they came into the bay, hiding themselvs from predators....
so i did hunt all those mullets in a verry shallow waters [1.5 to 0.50m depth]

I'm not sure how are the things further north in Romania, but I suppose it is a lot similar to our waters.

It is true that mullets love hot water, but now when the entire sea is hot there is a lot more water in between the mullets :)

Earlier in the year the only hot layer is the very shallow (1-2 metres) and all the fish is concentrated there. Also the fish migrate from south to north in search of warmer waters and more food and is easier to intercept them on their way.

Now when the thermocline is gone and the water is hot from 0 to 20 metres deep, the fish have spread evenly along the coasts. They have formed small groups of 10-20 fish and they feed off the bottom, off the sand or rocks. You must be more careful not to spook them when hunting.

You must dive and hide behind a rock and wait for them to come and check you out. If there is a group of mullets in the area they will come to you. They are curious. Then if you stay still they will literally come within a hand's reach from you.
They are generally easy targets.

Sometimes when the water is very hot they prefer to feed deeper where it is cooler. You will have to follow them and dive sometimes to 8-10-15 metres. In the deep the mullet are much more calm and will come to you faster. There, when you are diving deeper you may also find some bluefish hidden within the group of mullet. They love to do that because in this way they pass unnoticed and can come much closer to their pray.
Hope this will help you to get bigger prays next time :)

i rarelly saw sand-mullets
very often i see them eating upon roky bottom
i only saw mulets mating and eating
whan eating they are indeed easy target
when matting they are in the move and rarely i hit one of the female
like you i wayt for them and indeed they come because of curiosity
in our parts the waters are now very blurry at higer depts, so the only good visibility is somwhere arround 2,0-0,5m, in the bay
i saw last sunday a big mullet at 0,80m water depth [about 2 kylos], but he kept the distance from me...
can't wayt to go hunting with you:)

another 2 pictures with the same fish
bulgaria here i come!!!!!!

i was in bulgaria [duni-sozopol]
my friend Dobs
the black sea is indeed different in bulgaria from the same sea in romania...
the waters are far more clears and the flora and fauna is a mix between black sea and the mediteranean one....
i caught 5 mullets in 6 days
i saw mullets at depth, as u said, but the bigest i saw in the harbor bay upon sandy bottom

sorry 4 the quallity of the pictures, but those was still frames from a poor footage!!!

great fishing, Vali! I used to spearfish in Black Sea, on the other side though, around Novorossiysk. Early 80th till mid 90's, not all the time, on and off. And only in the summer, I never had wetsuit and didn't seem to need one back then.

In April I will go again [for only a week] to hunt turbots!
I already started my recovery program to be fit for cold water diving :p
Hope to post some good stuff here after the hunting season :)
