Ban the commercials for a few years and see how the stock recover, I'm all for the 1 fish a day limit, would'nt bother me in the slightest.

6 months catch and release. 6 months one fish bag limit. I'm all for it.

I'd have no problem with the 1 bass per day limit but realistically it would mean only 3 months that I could hunt for bass. If this years conditions were to be repeated next year then I would probably only get diving a handful of times never mind even seeing a bass. The damage was plain to see last year with a local netting bass and clearing the place out. I seen large shoals of bass during the ban and a week or two later not a single bass or other fish was to be seen in that area for the rest of the season. This was bound to happen but I fear it will not stop the netting and stocks will continue to dwindle...if they get caught they pay the fine and are back netting again the next day, I was told they get between 6 and ten euro per kilo. If they can't police the coast then they should set up stings for the restaurants and markets that buy the catch...put them out of business and there won't be any financial gain for netters. I'd like to propose a ban on wild Bass being found in hotels and restaurants or lose their licence. There's probably more food inspectors than fishery officers to police this approach.

I'd be willing to take the hit on the bass ban and I'd hope it may discourage some of the 'shoot everything you see' fraternity.
Seen my spots decimated also.

I'd give anything for a swim in Irish waters now, even without a speargun. You don't know what you have till it's gone.

Happy Xmas everyone. Hope you all have a great break and a great 2016!

Many happy returns Rob...hope you and the family have a great Xmas and a prosperous New Year.

Yep, happy Christmas Rob. Your speargun wouldn't be a lot of use anyway at this time of year unless you wanted a few late triggers from the scallop spot. I'm sure there'll still be triggers in the more sheltered places. We haven't had a winter here.
Worth going just for the scallops though.

Just wondering how the new law will effect Ireland.
I see a total ban for recreational anglers is from 1st Jan to end of June and then a one fish limit, yet on the other hand Gill netters have an increased limit.
Question is as this is coming out of Brussels will Ireland still keep it's complete ban on commercial fishing for Seabass?

I think its going to be C&R until June ,and then 1 fish per day ,which imo ,is enough for any man
But i'm afraid its like the conservation measures introduced for the protection of Atlantic Salmon ,30 years too late !

I haven't logged in here for a while and I'm shocked to find it so quiet. Whatever happened to the Irish on this forum????
Hi Dave, I tried to contact you a few times without success. Give me a ring when possible. Happy New Year.
